In case you didn't notice, Gov Abercrombie is furious with nuts like you who don't believe that Obama is a citizen. He is trying to get an exception to the law in Hawaii that forbids the release of the 'long form' birth record. Of course, Abercrombie was acquainted with Obama's parents, so I'm sure that even if he does release the long-form you will simply refuse to believe it is genuine.

As to your post: Gov. Abercrombie is moving the discussion of Obama's birth certificate back to the front pages, exactly where the White House does not want it to be. Strange, I know. But I think we can all agree on the sooner the governor can clear up the long-form ("original" birth certificate) controversy the quicker the country can move on.

How we got here
In August and September 2008, news organizations did what they do whenever a new figure bursts onto the national political stage. They began to scour the public records of the candidate's family and school background, government and military service, writings, finances, etc. You've seen this process at work for generations, from Thomas Eagleton's prescriptions to Hillary Clinton's land investments to Mitt Romney's illegal alien gardeners to Barack Obama's aunt's immigration status.

It's commonly referred to as "smearing" .

What's remarkable is the fact that MSNBC/NBC takes pride in it's tabloid mentality.

Instead of the traditional peacock logo, maybe leave off the "pea" part and stick with something more befitting a "news" organization of their caliber.

Obama produced his documents. How are people still so convinced that he doesnt have a valid birth certificate? Is it his name? Using that logic, Sarah Palin was only a few hundred miles from Russia, therefore that makes her Russian, and all Russians are communists, therefore Sarah Palin is a communist. See, I can do it too!

Lets face reality. When a politician, right or left, doesnt want us to see something, doesnt it make you a bit curious why? Palin's administration was caught using private email services to conduct official business, isnt that a bit odd? Her state has always had dealings with the "energy" companies, and they have always been paid handsomely for it. Perhaps there is something more going on there. Perhaps there isnt. My point is we dont know. We have a legal right to find out though, and since they are making such an effort to hang it up, it makes it all that much more mysterious.

As for the birth certificate, I personally don't care where he's from, but he did NOT produce his birth certificate. The governor of Hawaii wrote off a testament to live birth, a newly written piece of paper saying the person swears someone was born where the person claims to be from. Of course, I can claim to be from Mars, doesn't make it true, and the law was rewritten so he did not need to produce the original certificate, making him the first President in over a century to refuse to release this record. Not that it matters to me, the man causes the same damage or positive changes no matter where he came from, I'll just be glad when he leaves.

And the claim that he produced what was asked of him? What, exactly, did he release that was asked of him? He refuses to release what up until his term was public visitor meeting records, again changing the law to circumvent the request. Refuses to release required public record meeting minutes, granting himself an exemption even though as President he still doesn't have that authority. So we don't know who visited even though laws require that to be public. We don't know how long or where he visited them, even though laws require that to be public. This is by far one of the most nontransparent administrations in decades, people don't like Bush (though his approval rating currently IS a bit higher than Obama's) but at least public records were made actually public. The teleprompter addicted man in office now hasn't produced a single public records request yet in his entire time in office...not one.

And of course, he refuses to release HIS email records, and yet gave three speeches attacking Palin for, not refusing to release them, but releasing them too slowly! How long has the request for his emails been going on, and how many of those emails have been seen again? Still want to claim he produced what was asked of him?

He refuses to release what Palin is releasing "too slowly," and yet you claim Obama produced what was asked and going after Palin isn't a witchhunt...hmmm, sorry don't see where the facts side with your fraudulent claim.

Really, where? I don't care where he's from, being the first generation of my family born in this country and all, but just to put the issue to rest I've continually looked to see if it was ever made public record. You'd think the media would have announced it if it was available or ever shown, right? I've seen an announcement of birth, nothing else.

The biggest complaint from the birthers isn't just the birth certificate he and the state refuse to release, it's also from a trip he made to Pakistan in 1981, even though there was a US travel restriction there from 1979-1985. The claim is that either he had a non-US passport or somehow went there illegally. Obama himself does claim to have joint citizenship between the US and Britain (which some political lawyers argue also makes him ineligible as dual citizenship is considered outside citizenship and thus ineligible for his level position), but England had also enacted a travel ban during that same time period.

Still all I find is a birth announcement, as well as two speeches by him where he says that this is the only thing he will release. The announcement is of course a piece of paper that doesn't count as a legal document to get a job working at a fast food place. If it doesn't count to dish out hamburgers, why would it count for a man running to be the leader of the nation. I found a claim by the state of Hawaii that his record is on file, but Obama requested that the official required document for the position not be released.

Still, I don't care, I'm only here because my father has dual citizenship, but the claim that he's provided what people are asking for is in fact wrong. There's a greater chance he does it to keep the fire going knowing more people are against the birthers than with them, versus not actually having one. He's not exactly what you'd call the most honest person, what with banning access to his visitor and meeting logs that up until his presidency have been public access as well, as well as claiming Republicans are "hostage takers" and all that garbage, so it fits with his attitude. Pakistan is the real question, but there are ways Americans can work around that, depends on the reason for the trip. I've seen exceptions granted many times before.

Excuse me, but a Certificate of Live Birth is a legal document. My son has one, not a long form, but the short form, the same one President Obama has presented. The State of Idaho and many other states have adopted this short form as their LEGAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE! And the state DOES NOT recognize the hospital birth certificate (the one with the parents name and little foot prints on the back) as a legal document.

Now, it should be interesting what Sarah presents as her legal birth certificate, if she runs. I don't know what the state of Idaho issued at the time of her birth, but if she requires a new copy, her copy from the state will look exactly like Obamas. So, will birthers ask if she was really born in Canada. Sarah has even admitted that her family traveled to Canada for medical care when she was little. Maybe Sarah was really born there.

Obama may indeed be a U.S. citizen, but valid questions remain about whether he is really a "natural born" citizen as required by the constitution. If it turns out that Obama is NOT constitutionally eligible, he is then an ILLEGAL President. If look at a typical birth certificate from Hi. at that time it has a section notating the race of the baby. Obamas mother was white and the father was not present so they would have checked white as his race. Big Embarrassment.

You are wrong. The Obama for America campaign showed a CERTIFICATION OF LIVE BIRTH, which was frequently given to children born at home (or recently brought into the country). The LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE which bears the signature of the attending physician, and the name of the hospital (thus providing the actual proof needed) has been, and continues to be hidden by Obama at a great cost (and you don't think this is at all fishy?).

You liberals must have rocks for brains. How many times do you have to be told, shown, and sourced to the information that clears this up, only to STILL NOT GET IT? WOW!

His birth certifcate was put out on the web a while back; the long form that the state of HI doesn't recognize as usable for public consumption cannot be released because of state law predating President Obama's run for office in IL. The only thing redacted was the number.

Unforturnately Hank - Cheryl is pretty correct. Everyone receives a Short term Birth Certificate whether born in the US or born abroad. IF you are born abroad - your parents have to renounce your citizenship in that country and apply to the US certificate of live birth upon return for. When you apply, you are then termed a US Citizen with the name of the city you applied for the certificate as the location of Birth. There is supposed to be a long form also, but on it would go the actual location the child's birth took place and who the attending physician was.

Because of privacy laws, the only persons who have the right to release the long form to the public view are the guardian of the Child and the Child themselves. Any Hawaii official disclosing any information other than what is provided on the short form would go to prison for a very long time.

There have been numerous presidents who's natural born status has been challenged. None have ever succeded because you cannot sue unless you have proof that you have been or are being harmed in a measureable way. If you think the courts are jambed now, this is the one thing that keeps the courts from a deluge of fivilous cases. Obama gets to enjoy the same protection.

If you talk to people who not citizens of this country, they will laugh and tell you "now they too, can run for President of the United States.

They and a couple of other pollsters have polled about half of the states to try to determine now who Obama will have to run against. If Obama is too far behind, and he is behind Huckabee, Romney and Gingerich and about even with Palin - that will open the door for a serious challenge for the Democrat nomination.

As one analyst put it. All four republicans have one or two serious Flaws. The one that mitigates to the Party's satisfaction wins the nomination. If those First tier Republicans are unsuccessful in mitigating thier flaw, then the Republicans will choose between , Pawlenty, Pence, Barbour, and Daniels. Other favorites such as Christy, Jindal, Perry, McDonnell currently insist they are not interested in 2012, but perhaps 2016.

Huckabee - the current front-runner.

1. Lacks broad appeal - Strength is in the south from Florida to Texas. His television show has helped his image in the north and west and appears to be having success in broadening his appeal to the North and West.
2. Conservatives in the party still see him as not conservative enough. He must overcome this because Gingerich (#4) also pulles a great amount of his strength in the same states.

Romney - Relinquished his front-runner staff November 1. He will be defeated easily - he has the strongest organization of the First Tier.

1. His big problem is Massachusetts Health Care. I realize he he did not write it and the limits he put on it may have kept it from being a loser, but his predecessor, Gov. Patrick expanded the the bill to beyond what Romney got removed. IF Obama care had not gone through - he wins, but with it through and the majority of Americans wanting it repealed - he is going to continue to fade.
2. Although some Religious right groups have backed off from the "must be what we consider a Christian" litmus test - this is still another anchor to drag through the nomination process.

Gingerich - Fourth. Although in by June he easily passed Palin and rivaled Huckabee in the number of states at the top - he never reached the popularity of the Palin, Huckabee, or Romney.

1. Gingerich is an intelligent crafty politician - but crafty isn't good enough as exemplified by the government shut down in 1995. This along with his other past indiscretions and supporting some more seriously wrong candidates in 2010 will lead him to fade further.

Palin - Third and improving. In the polls of the upper 4 - she is the only one who wins at least one state in every major geographic region in the United States. Romney only carries in the North - Midwest and west. Palin includes the South.

1. The Negative publicity could sink her. She appears to be having success in minimizing the damage brought on by Republican campaign mismanagement.

• get Dick Morris in your campaign early
• It's okay to use less common words when you speak. It won't help you with the elitists, but it will strengthen your appeal as a whole.

It states in the article that the people holding up the release of information are the people Palin or her running mate appointed. There doesn't seem to be any logistical reason not to release the documents, so it stands to reason this is being done as a favor to Palin.

The formal investigations are over. The score was 16 Wins - 0 loses - and 2 ties. This email thing is only left - and only because people want tie #1 (Abuse of Power) to be changed to win #1. The "abuse" was her not being fully aware of what Todd was doing. The only way that could be changed to her abusing power is gaining the interstaff emails that show her instructing Todd to contact officials over the trooper gate matters. There are no emails or conversations from the State Police offices giving one indication of this occuring. This is was also shown to be the case by the affidavits and the testimony of the Police commissioner.

We'll never see the visitor or meeting logs that were public access for every President before Obama either, he wrote a legal change to exempt himself like no other President even attempted before him. Right now, it's the state sorting through the near record number of emails, since too many emails were mixes, they have to sort out those to be distributed with those that are personal, a major order. That's largely Palin's screwup, most politicians keep more separate accounts to make transitions and requests easier, but she's basically on the sidelines for this whole thing.
