Builder who helped air 'Swift Boat' ads gives $3 million to pro-Romney super PAC

bobperry.us

Texas homebuilder Bob Perry, who helped fund the "Swift Boat" ads targeting Sen. John Kerry in 2004, has joined an elite club of GOP fundraisers by giving $3 million to a pro-Mitt Romney super PAC.

A reclusive Texas homebuilder who helped finance the “Swift Boat Veterans” attacks against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004 contributed nearly half of the $6.4 million raised by a super PAC backing Mitt Romney last month.

Bob Perry, owner of the Houston-area custom homebuilder Perry Homes and a longtime backer of conservative causes, gave $3 million last month to the pro-Romney super PAC Restore Our Future, according to a report filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.

Perry has been a prolific donor to Republican candidates and causes this election cycle, having previously given $1 million to the same pro-Romney super PAC, as well as $100,000 to a super PAC that backed Texas Gov. Rick Perry and $2.5 million to American Crossroads, the Republican super PAC founded by Karl Rove.

Perry’s support is  the latest example of how a small group of extremely wealthy donors are accounting for the bulk of the financing in this year's Republican presidential contest.

Perry, who helped fund the Swift Boat attacks against Massachusetts Sen. Kerry in 2004, which sought to discredit his military record and subsequent antiwar activities, almost never gives interviews or attends political fundraisers. But with his new seven-figure check, he has become part of an elite club of mega donors, along with Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who’s helped bankroll a pro-Newt Gingrich super PAC; and Wyoming financier Foster Friess, a top supporter of the pro-Rick Santorum Red, White and Blue Fund. Those men, along with Texas billionaire Harold Simmons, are effectively helping to bankroll the barrage of attack ads that have been flooding the airwaves in the GOP primary states.

Restore Our Future -- the biggest of  the presidential super PACs -- has spent $35 million in this year's primary battle, almost all of it on negative ads slamming Romney's opponents. (The group reported it had $10.5 million in cash still on hand as of the end of February.)

Other notable donations to the group last month include $500,000 checks from two other veteran GOP donors-- David Humphrey, CEO of TAMKO Building Products in Joplin, Mo., and Jerry Perenchio, a former Hollywood talent agent and former CEO of Univision -- as well as $100,000 from Simmons, a leveraged buyout kingpin who has already given $10 million to GOP super PACs this year, including groups backing Gingrich and Perry.

All told, Restore Our Future collected 15 checks of $100,000 or more last month and at least 31 out of its total of 100 donors came from financial institutions, including big hedge funds and private equity firms that have been the biggest single source of its funds. These included $100,000 from Henry Kravis, the co-CEO and chair of Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts (another $50,000 was contributed by KKR partner Marc Lipshultz); and  $100,000 from Ken Griffin, the founder and CEO of Chicago based Citadel hedge fund. Griffin recently told the Chicago Tribune he is "terrified" the country is headed in the wrong direction, and complaining that the financial markets have become a "hyper-regulated industry" that is "punishing savers." As for criticism that big donors like him are tilting the political process, Griffin said: "I think (the ultra-wealthy) actually have an insufficient influence. Those who have enjoyed the benefits of our system more than ever now owe a duty to protect the system that has created the greatest nation on this planet."

Restore Our Future’s FEC report shows the group, created and controlled by Romney allies and former Romney aides, spent $11.6 million in February on TV and Internet ads, the vast majority of them attacking Santorum and Gingrich, and on direct mail and phone outreach to voters.

In total, the group spent $12.2 million for the month, in which seven nominating contests were held, including an expensive, tightly fought battle in Michigan. According to the FEC report, Restore Our Future ended the month with more than $10 million remaining on hand.

NBC News’ Garrett Haake contributed to this report.

Perry has been a prolific donor to Republican candidates

Buying your way to a winning candidate should not be the American method, but after the Supreme Court made corporations people too, there will never again be any result besides this one.

He's laughing as the serfs all the way from the bank.

Did the Swift Boat guys lie about Kerry's medals?

regarding the "Swift Boat" guys--it's just a handful of mega-rich guys that never gave a day of service to their country. Karl Rove? Dick Cheney--and this "home builder"--what slice does he want out of the deal. I know that everyday, I cut a check for $3M and want nothing in return.

Legislate a law that would put "Citizens United" to bed forever. No limit contributions by special interests on all sides own the corruption that exist in our government.

Regarding the medals--how many does Romney have? Oh, I forgot. Mormons don't serve in the military. In fact, Utah has the lowest military volunteerism per capita of any state--yet the Mormons always vote for the right. He's threatened to go to war in Iran if elected. Will he exempt young Mormon men so they can postalize for that religion of nuts?

Perry?

"Elliott, who had been Kerry's commanding officer, was quoted by the Boston Globe Aug 6 as saying he had made a "terrible mistake" in signing the affidavit against Kerry, in which Elliott suggested Kerry hadn't told him the truth about how he killed the enemy soldier. Later Elliott signed a second affidavit saying he still stands by the words in the TV ad. But Elliott also made what he called an "immaterial clarification" - saying he has no first-hand information that Kerry was less than forthright about what he did to win the Silver Star."

John McCain : I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crewmates have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam.

Using that posting name while supporting someone who totally denigrates and disregards our constitution is an insult to those that believe in the basics our country was founded on. NO one has yet found out, because of lack of cooperation and stonewalling, just where all Obama's money came from in th 2008 election. Nor do we know where all of it is coming now and he is taking mega bucks from bundlers and super pacs so save the hypocracy.

The good news is that his donation will make no perceivable difference.

The bad news is that it will make no difference because we're already as low as we can go.

The good news is that the ads will gleefully inform us of every perceived wrong doing or bad decision made by every candidate on earth... and will clarify exactly what everyone is AGAINST.

The bad news is that we will be virtually unable to sort out the truth or otherwise understand what anyone is FOR.

I lied. It's ALL bad news.

Interesting how MSNBC can focus like a laser on the republican PACS and nary a whisper mentioned about our dear leader's massive election campaign chest. Almost a BILLION DOLLARS, the largest in history and it comes from one and two dollar donations, right? Guess all those ordinary people out there buying lottery tickets to have dinner with Obama aren't making enough money for Obama. Seems he's got his own superPacs, funded by the likes of Soros, and the hollywood 'elites' and of course, corporations, banks and Wall Street and billionaires like Buffet ( has he paid his taxes or is Obama giving him another pass?)

Wonder how well Corzine is these days? Wonder about the CEO of Solyndra as well. Nothing says propaganda better than a one-sided article attempting to blacken one side and giving the other side, doing exactly the same thing, a pass. Hypocrites.

No one wants to confront the debt, all manner of topics are tossed out and the bottom line, the facts are that there won't be any social programs, nada zip zero if the debt contiues to spiral outward. They are all dirty in the House and Senate, but with the Democrats we have a fighting chance at survival. You mention Greece, yet don't mention the many EU nations that are flourishing in a Social Democracy. They have this trick---stay out of wars with other countries. Something that the CIA and Defense Contractors can't have in our country. We are war dependent--but instead of using the dwindling tax dollars for infrastructure and education, it's spent on wars that never should have been fought. Romney & Santorum flatly state that they would take this country to war against Iran. You're a smart person and I'm not insulting you.

Choose:

A) refining the art of killing people and borrowing the money to do it

B) take care of our country

Guess the budget, which the democrats ignored for over three years isn't up for discussion? A balanced budget would do far more for the country than any number of 'jobs bills' and stimulus. The onus was on the democrat majority and they 'passed' in favor of demogoguing the republicans. At least they offered a budget, Obama's budgets have been non-starters and 'shovel ready jobs' non-existant. As to the tax the rich narrative, the income tax was only to be temporary and only tax the rich. See how well that worked? Now, tax and spend is the democrat hallmark and raising taxes on the rich generally becomes raising taxes on everybody. Lest we also forget, in lieu of calling taxes, taxes, they now call them fees and you will enjoy paying all those fees that will be coming soon.

Sandtrich: The EU is in trouble and its countries like Greece that will bring it down. Too much heavily borrowing to support the unsustainable. It's great when you have the income coming in to support a socialized country. When you don't, well, you're in trouble. As to staying out of wars, when NATO is essentially the US, why yes, they don't have to worry about wars and maintaining standing armies. If the US pulls out of NATO what're they gonna do?

The problem is that neither party offers a solution. No intelligent being in sight and I include Obama in that mix. Now is not the time for pushing progressive agendas, not when the economy is so weak. Get the economy up and running and then push, otherwise you only indebt further.

Umm, it was Clinton, not Bush. Go do your homework. His watch saw the repeal of Glass Steagall, his watch, not Bush. Then it was Clinton who ignored the growing threat of the derivates market and to this day nothing has been done about that. Clinton reinserted the Community Reinvestment Act, which is what is at the heart of the housing collapse, along with the aforemention items. Bush's administration expressed concerns about Freddie/Fannie and were told to take a hike by Barney Franks. That was when it was turned over to the democrats. It was the Gramm-Leach-Bailey act that replaced Glass Steagall and then the gates were opened. Don't just pick on one group and ignore the other, that's how problems persist and grow.

What I do notice is that all the non-closed comments are written by literate, obviously educated individuals.

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont offers a solution and it's the only solution, per Nobel Prize winner in Economics says will work. I don't put a lot of emphasis on the Nobel Peace Prize, but they don't hand our the Nobel in economics like government cheese. It involves renegotiating NAFTA and other "free trade" agreements, coupled with eliminating the middle man between patient and caregiver, (insurance companies), with defense cuts, get rid of the Bush/Obama tax cuts, and invest on the infrastructure.

We bomb the countries. We rebuild them. Problem is, we don't invest s**t in our own country. Wars are not the answer and any House or Senate member that votes for continuing wars will not get my vote---and both of mine are Democrats. Both of them suck from the teat of defense contractors.

I'm not "pushing a progressive agenda." It's just plain logic. The only vote that I will cast this November will be for President Obama.

Wish that I could be so sanguine about Obama but he's definitely not pulling out of NAFTA, he's encouraging more 'free trade,' his HCR give the insurance company much more power and more customers, getting rid of the Bush tax cuts will prove interesting, seems soon the US will have the largest corporate tax rate on the planet and jobs will be less as a result, thus encouraging more taxes in a recession.

Why do business here when you pay the largest tax rate on the planet? China offers better opportunities for business. Defense cuts come at a price and the weapons mfg. will still profit while the lowly soldiers take it in the shorts. Infrastructure comes from tax monies, taxing the rich more will encourage the rich to leave, they don't need to be here and making $200,000 per annum isn't in the same league as making $200 million but the less money will see more taxes.

I fully agree with you on the war machine and 'nation' rebuilding. Note that Libya was in the sights of France and GB. They pushed the hardest and they have many contractors who were chomping at the bit to get into Libya. Note as well where the Libyan oil is headed and it ain't here. Obama is a continuation of the war machine. Watch closely, Syria next? Maybe?

Bob Perry in just one guy who personifies almost perfectly what is wrong with our national election process. I really, really want to ask the real American journalists to let me know which ads he is funding later this year. The "Swiftboaters" should have gone down in flames in 2004 and Bob Perry too. Shameful!

A majority of the GOP are self identifying "evangelicals". So why is it so many of them assume money is everything? That money cures and buys all is not the teaching of the bible at all. In fact Jesus as one of his LAST acts before the crucifixion destroyed the temple and kicked out the money changers. Are you all able to recall why? Hmm. Indeed. ;]

Simply put Mr. Bush had to SUE to win his presidency. He did not win by a landslide but President Obama CRUSHED Mcailin in that very fashion. The will of the people have spoken. Now then what you have with this over turning of the 60 some odd year old law is an attempt to subvert the will of the people of America by buying the Presidency. This has been shown in ONLY republican states creating new voter laws that make it harder to vote then has been the case for decades. Why you may ask? I will tell you. It is due to the GOP's anger at no longer being able to deliver FAVORS to there lobby's that have bought and paid for them. Own them you may say. ; ]

You see they hate that President Obama was elected in such a landslide and the mess that the GOP made of this country with Mr. Bush at the helm is to much burden to bare. The project there self hatred outword while casting FREEDOM laws and the rules aside in an attempt at winning at any and all cost.

There happens to be an old Republican saying that now Tea bagging republican extremist use as well. It is told as follows.. "If you aint cheating, you aint tryin".. An that is clearly the side of the isle that they are walking in all aspects of there intentions. You can see it in the congress and senate on the right side of the isle. You can see the hatred of children and education and women having the FREEDOM to do as they wish and the hatred for the elderly that they wish to take advantage of them. By suckering them in once more in a poor attempt at GAMBLING away there SSI and Medicare. Which the bible is against as well [gambling]

So you see, we ALL see and KNOW who is truly right and who is right in name alone. ; ]

Cheers

Democracy in America is DEAD.

Rich multimillionaires and billionaires have poltical speech voice$ that drown out everyone else.

Congratulations to the $upreme Court for their bone headed decision that opened the flood gates, and declared Corporations are human beings.

So now we have Poltical Speech for Corporation$ and the Elite Wealthy, and effectively NO poltical speech for the rest of us "pee-ons".

America has now truly become a 3rd World Country. We may as well crown Romney the King of America, and be done with all the hypocrisy and pretense of fairness.

This is the hypocrisy of liberals, unions provide millions of dollars from unions dues but that is ok, union is not a person neither. Georgy Soros and his octopus organization, moveon.org, tide foundation and many other pour million to left wing candidates

This is the shear ignorance of the extreme right.... you know, the ones that just make up @!$%# to make a point?

How many here knew that it was illegal for unions to use dues for PAC money?

Unions can solicit their members for their specific donation to a PAC that represents the union's interest... like any other company... but they cannot blatantly use dues.

sk: even a 'powerhouse' can fail if the demands on it become too great. Too big to fail? Really? As to tax evasion, how do you equate that with protesting raising taxes while not addressing the spending? Guess you don't mind tossing more and more money into a bottomless pit, most folks, however, would rather that tax money be spent wisely. How much interest is going into paying off the national debt? You ok with that? More money, more taxes and no end in sight, which, BTW, was the problem with Greece.

In as much as the US would not be bound by a common currency or governing set of rules, I don't see the comparison as valid with the EU. Checking our public debt to GDP, we're at 100%. Japan is at $200%. Countries that thrive don't urinate away their money on the largest military that the world has ever known since The Roman Empire. Their failure, per many authors, has a common thread--overspending, trade imbalances, and becoming a plutocracy, as opposed to a democracy.

The EU doesn't kill capitalism. As in Spain and Greece, the average entrance age into the working force is over 26 Y/O and retirement at 57 Y/O with periods of unemployment where they were on the dole.

I invested in Vestas, the world's largest and thriving wind turbine giant. "Most" of the EU's 27 member nations have a far better grasp on their economy that we do. This thing that the people in Washington call "capitalism" is getting us no where.

Roy, and the rest of you GOP nut bags..... PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY.

WHAT GOP RUN (* R. Ailes, CEO) Faux News WILL NOT TELL YOU... PLEASE, LOOK THEM UP! GOP, please save the "name calling" for someone else. It only makes you look more pathetic.

FACT: Hundreds-of-thousands were saved with the GM, GM dependent bailout *** GM is once again the largest auto manufacturer in the world! IMPORTANT: NO - managed bankruptcy was not in the cards! No money was being put up!
FACT: losing 750,000 jobs per month at the end Bush lost ALL his job creations in 2007/2008 - for a NET loss!!! Under Obama, more jobs were created in 2010 than Bush's entire 2-terms!
FACT: Obama saved YOUR, MINE, ALL OF OUR 401K with the stock market recovery! *** Bush closed the DOW at around 8000. We're now MOVING UP and almost at 13000.
FACT: Obama got TARP paid back w/ interest after Bush nationalized the banks!
FACT: Obama lowered taxes on the AVERAGE American *** The Tea Party recently fought tooth and nail to RAISE them (Payroll tax)! THEY FINALLY GAVE-UP.
FACT: Obamacare puts lost personal credit (lost economic demand) and cost to business for the #1 reason for personal bankruptcy (lack of health care) back in the economy! Nixon, McCain, Romney, Gangrich, were all FOR mandate - before they were against it! ***
FACT: BUSH turned Clinton's budget SURPLUS into 1.2 Trillion dollar deficit -- and dropped this bomb on Obama's lap!!! *** Sickening how the GOP take no responsibility for this! They prefer to argue if it was or was not "technically" a surplus. Gingrich calls it a SURPLUS! GOP must have been lying to us all this time...
FACT: GOP Presidents signed off on and are responsible for 80 percent of our national debt!!! *** That's right folks, stroke of the GOP pen! *** Most of this was during relatively prosperous times and again Bush screwed-up a surplus!!! DO NOT FORGET TO INCLUDE THE 1.2 TRILLION BUSH LEFT TO OBAMA DAY-ONE AND THE GOP NOW PERVERSELY BLAME OBAMA FOR!
FACT: TEA PARTY OBSTRUCTION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR America's credit rating *** "John Chambers, the head of sovereign ratings at S/P, told CNN that the political brinkmanship over the debt ceiling proved to be a key issue, with the U.S. government getting to the last day before they had cash-management problems"......... TEA PARTY ANYONE!!
FACT: Obama balanced Perry's budget (with the Stimulus) *** Too funny. :)

Recently the Obama campaign spent $750,000 on nail polish ( $10,000 on the nail polish) and other collectibles so that his followers could buy these products (replete with the Obama logo, his special brand) and the campaign could claim that most of his support came from 'grassroots' rather than the elite wealthy coughing up $35,000. for a campaign donor dinner.

Note that the nail polish comes in red, white and blue colors and retails for $40.00 a bag. Obama collectibles, soon to be sold alongside PeeWee Herman dolls and Obama action figure dolls. He must have a Wall Street, Madison Ave. ad company handling his campaign. Guess the 'grassroots' follower can also buy the lottery ticket that acts as a campaign contribution and promises the winner a dinner with their hero. Soon they will get to spin "the Wheel of Fortune' for a small contribution and perhaps win a gift bag of Obama nail polish.

The people in that village told the exact same story as Kerry, and even described him. They did not see the people Perry paid to put on the 'swift boat' commercial. Guess those guys were too chicken or too slow to show up, or just didn't know what was going on.

Too bad I didn't learn about that until AFTER the election. I voted for Bush.

So it seems that Bob Perry will slander and libel American veterans and lie to the American electorate in order to sway election results. Not nice.

Fool me once, shame on me. It won't happen again, Perry.

By the way, Mitt Romney fled the US for France in order to escape the draft during the Vietnam War. Does that make him a draft dodger? We already know he's a tax dodger.

Some enjoy nail polish. Others enjoy bumper stickers. Most though, enjoy a really illogical lie. What the hell? Any who can be persuaded to vote a certain way due to such tactics aren't stable enough to vote responsibly anyway.

Surely, all thinking people have heard enough from the "fear mongering dolts" about Greece. When in full bloom the Greek economy is only about 100 billion dollars more than the US state of Georgia. All the wiggling and squirming within the EU, using that country as the straw man, is due to the stupidity, and/or shortsightedness of those architects of that goofy union, who were silly enough to attempt to hold the damn thing together with a common currency. The Greek people haven't changed. Productive as they ever were. It's inevitable, when large rich nations ally themselves with smaller poor ones, the overall averages will, at some point decline more than the initial math indicated, especially the value of a common currency, due to the simplicity of differences of the behavior of the sovereign people of those sovereign nations, which could not be closely calculated in the first place. Here though, no one even attempted at the outset. Damn basic stupidity.

Now that's an interesting idea. "I support this ad because I'm a liar too." Does that mean he really doesn't support the ad? Or he supports it and was lieing when he said he was lieing? Lots of possibilities.

I am so happy that I am able to read so that when someone just lies to be lying I can check out the facts, on both sides!!!! @Bob_1003 only one possibility he lies period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Canary, I get my data from the library of life, not the liberal media. Prices of most all capital goods are higher under Obama because I buy them. The money I have made in the market is in pure defensive investments and high alpha funds. Any growth has come to a screeching halt. I suspect, by your post, that you probably are a benefactor rather than a contributor, or you too would notice the obvious.

I am on the other side, but what the guy is doing--well, it is legal. Just that simple. We need our Congress to change it, so that we can have people back in the process. Until then, Mr. Perry is simply exercising his rights.

The fact is that Kerry was killed by out and out lies (many of the "sailors" that "testified" about Kerry were shown to be fakes). But the Tea Party is being killed by these bastards now (believe me, I am not on their side). The establishment is using an overwhelming financial advantage to marginalize a legitimate grass roots movement.

I would say Perry is an example of how people abuse their rights deliberately & dishonorably

It's a damned shame we need laws to stop it when honor alone should keep people from this,,, but unfortunately we will not have an honest election truly representing "We the People" until we do pass laws to stop it & reverse Citizens United

BUFFALO: You really might want to reassess your opinion of Kerry. While your boys, Dubya and Cheney had both weaseled their way out of serving their country, all the while, cheering on support for the war, John Kerry had volunteered for hazerdous duty. As his daughter said about him, "Do I have to show these people the scars all over my father's body???"

The was the classic Karl Rove Nazi tactic. Yes, I did say Nazi and I mean it. Rove's rule #1 is to always "attack your opponents STRONGEST qualities, not his weakest. Can you imagine punks like Dubya, Rove and the rest of these weasels judging a decorated combat veteran. That takes a pair of large ones. But hey, they did it to one of their own when they accused John McCain of having fathered a child with a black woman so what the hell would you expect.

Kerry was an out and out traitor. Because of his admitted lies about war atrocities, soldiers who came back were spat on and called baby killers. He should have faced a firing squad.

So over a hundred sailors were all liars and the guy who admitted lying to congress is telling the truth? Pathetic.

Sorry, but its an election year, the truth is a frail little thing and easily covered up and destroyed. If you are foolish enough to believe everything coming out of the Obama administration and think only the other side lies...tsk, tsk.

You sir are the traitor to all those that served by promoting dishonesty. Bush was a coward, Cheney was a coward - and you're a coward for backing the lies of the GOP because of your neonuzi right-wing Televangelical indoctrination of hate and fear - aka chicken hawk. The propaganda of the right only comes from one source - AILES/MURDOCK/GOP. Last group that pulled that off were Nazis.

Quit blogging if you can't check your facts. Truth is the only way, didn't your Mothers teach you that?

To those who understand the big-lie that Jean-982597 and other promote - its interesting to note from history:

"The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile:[4][5]

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[6]"

It is liberals who lie. They promised fiscal responsibility and health care reform, we got $1.3 trillion dollar deficits and Obamacare instead. Remember thanks to the stimulus unemployment would never go above 8%. Remember how Obama was going to cut the deficit in half his first term? Remember how Obamacare was supposed to lower health care costs? Remember how you were supposed to be able to keep your doctor?

Lie after lie after lie. Kerry admitted he lied, he admitted to treason by aiding and abetting the enemy.

"Obamacare" was stolen directly from "Romneycare" and Romney got it from studies and health organizations that are pushing for reform. You weren't going to mention that little detail though were you? Its not like omitting details is paramount to a lie or anything.

Obamacare hasn't even gone into full effect yet and you are already blaming it for all of your medical woes.

If you want to fault Obama, its that he made big promises and couldn't see them through. There are reasons for that, partly his fault, but also the fault of his detractors the gNOp.

Conservative politicians have become so radical that they regard the other side of the aisle as less then human. Liberals are untouchables you can't work with for fear of sullying your good conservative name. Thus, gridlock, filibustering and all other manner of nonsense.

Hey LETS ask Mr. Flip Flop some questions and see how patriotic the Mormon man is

1."Mr. Flip Flop Romnut, explain to everybody how placing your money into shelters overseas so you can get away with paying less then 14 percent in annual taxes is helping Americans?"

2."Mr. Flip Flop Romnut, do you send the bulk of your money overseas because you value the trade of other countries over America's, or did you send your money over there so you didn't have to pay as much in taxes as everybody else does?"

3."Mr. Flip Flop Romnut, you like to say that you pay what you owe in taxes and not a dollar more. What if the vast majority of America thinks you should pay a lot more? Do you agree with the majority of American people and pay more taxes or tell them you don't care and don't want their votes anyways?"

                            4. "Mr. Flip Flop Romnut, do you think all Americans should pay less then 14 percent of their annual incomes to taxes, like you do, even though that would plunge this great nation into third-world status almost immediately?

                            5. "Mr. Flip Flop Romnut only the rich could take advantage of loopholes you have used to insure you pay less in taxes then almost all Americans who pay taxes. Should that be how America's tax code works? Should rich people, like yourself, pay smaller percent of your income to taxes when people like our military, cops, social workers, firefighters have to pay a great deal more?

Cirnobyl...Our Government is not a passive one. The President is not a Dictator. It has taken over thirty years for our Government to become dysfunctional. It was a systematic degradation by both parties that got us into the position we are in with Medicare, No Regulations on the Money Changers, Corporations defined as "People" and what we are witnessing in Women's Health Issues. The President's open efforts to make the changes (We The People...) included voters following up after the election. What did they do? Voted in Tea Baggers in 2010 and obstructed the Lawmaking Process. How else do you explain the Women's Access to Contraception (Hormone Therapy) being attached to a Transportation Bill that every State in the union NEEDS? Blame Boehner and his band of puppeteers (Paul Ryan & Eric Cantor) for that nasty waste of time and taxpayer dollars. Now what is the common people left with? Informed Decision Making by voting and voting responsibly. Our Higher Education system has just been sold to the Saudis, China and India. Why do you think tuition tripled in four months within one year? What does it take for people to become outraged at the lying lyers like Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, Cantor, McConnell, et.al.? The GOP isn't even the GOP of tradition. Democrats are more moderate and conservative while the GOP is insanely out of bounds. A President is only as good as the people he/she represents. Obama is not perfect but many of his campaign initiatives were blocked. Where was the outcry then? Where were the protesters then? I wrote letters diligently in support of his forward thinking introductions to both Houses. I held my Representatives accountable letting them know how I would vote if they did not support the President. Why did so many Democrats (Max Baucus) vote against the President's initiatives? Do you actively write to your Senators and Congrssional Reps.? This is not a passive Government. Since I was in High School I have been writing letters to Lawmakers and as a Healthcare Professional I am consistently active in advocating for better access to healthcare for everyone by continuing to address appropriate Lawmakers of how they should consider the Public's Health! Grow Up! How else can we hold these "Swift Boaters" accountable? They sold out the public a long time ago. It just has a name and a face now. Money cannot buy intelligence and the ability to self educate.

Why do all the right wing nut-jobs seem to think that Texas (or any state) can leave the union? The civil war should have ended that lunacy. And if any state tries - they deserve to be placed under military receivership - same as happened to all those southern states after their 'great war to preserve slavery'. Strangely enough - it is the same states as before...

And now the lies about corruption? Geez - making up stuff whole cloth...

If Barry is re-elected, I assure you that you will see civil unrest unlike any other time in the history of this country. I am normally a pretty calm and down to earth person, never in my life have I been so disturbed by the actions and ideology of the leader this country. If I feel this way, I am certain that many more do as well. I guess we will see.

                              hahahahahahaha

By Majority, you mean all the beltway states that have more farm animals then people?

Let me remind you of something. This country is owned and operated by the wealthy elite. This election is just a game of smoke and mirrors. And believe me, if any number of states try to leave, they will have the entire, corporate funded military of the USA rammed down their throats, aided by a UN resolution to 'protect civilians'. Drones, future weapons, F22 Raptors. I'm sure your militias armed with long rifles will be able to cope.

You will essentially be playing into their hands, giving the elite the impetus to turn America into a fascist state. And by fascist, I mean a country whose government and corporations are entwined and serving one another openly and without regard for the rights of the people.

These "donors" don't become multi-millionaires by giving money away ~ most certainly not to political candidates. These are "investments" and all of these "donors" are expecting a return on their investments, plus they have a reasonable expectation of receiving one or more from the politicians they help to elect. Bob Perry is an ethically challenged individual who bought and sponsored lies about a previous candidate. If Romney backers accepted a dime from this charlatan, that is reason enough to defeat him. Since the "donation" occurred over a month ago, it is equally reasonable that this professional liar and cheat's money was warmly received by the Romney PAC. If Mitt is this blatant about cronyism before he is elected, imagine what will follow when he has the power of the office.

How many apartment buildings his company has built that are substandard since it is such a big investment prospect and most apartment buildings are corporately owned.

Valhalla, 88% of energy company political contributions have gone to Republicans as well as 90% of all financial institution contributions. I ask you, who is bought and paid for by energy and finance? It sure isn't the Democrats. As for Soros and Hollywood, they haven't given much of anything to anybody as of yet. Will they? Probably, but there are nowhere near the number of wealthy individuals who contribute to Democrats as to Republicans. We know that even though so many who contribute to Republicans are not known as they can hide like the cowards they are.

Excaliburgc - Socialist? not even close. Ours has become a Facist State. You people regurgitate what hear in the media without doing the research. You crack me up. Most of Obams'a Cabinet appointments were former corporate magnates. Stephen Chu was an executive from BP! The rest (with the exception of Rahm Emmanuel) were burnt out! They could not attack this nightmare set up by four previous administrations. What do you expect? He isn't taking big donor money now. Give the credit for relying on old fashioned campaigning in communities. It is also a proven fact that the "Swift Boater" people under a different gise headed up by Dick Armey took incidents out of context at ACORN and sunk them. Wake UP! Geez...don't you read or research the issues? You can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. What about Dick Chenay's Haliburton Manufactured Voting Machines (They had not even been patented or tested before release) that were thrust upon voters last minute during the 2000 Presidential campaign, gave back incorrect and unusable data and no one was prosecuted! During that election they scurried to get these machines out and never tested them. State Registrars of Voters were upset and angry that they were being told to use these machines without formal notification and preparation to assist voters.

                                          Whitefeather,

Most of Obams'a Cabinet appointments were former corporate magnates.

My favorite is when, say, the FCC chairwoman approves a deal between two major media companies, let's call them Bomcast and NBD, and then gets a high paying executive job at Bomcast 2 months later. If I get that kind of revolving door politics with a Democrat, a Republican ain't gonna be any better. You are 100% correct. We live in a Fascist State. Democracy is just a horse and pony show to make the rule "legit." Plus if Americans keep blaming whatever political party they don't like for all of the problems, instead of focusing on the people actually creating the problems, then the system is allowed to perpetuate forever.

Case in point: everybody else in this thread. They'd rather blame the candidates for their big money supporters instead of the people who are writing the big checks and undermining the democratic process, keeping us in the perpetual state of Fascism under the guise of democracy. Only when we publicly shame the fascists writing these big checks will we institute real change. But I'm almost certain that there will be a knee-jerk reply to this suggestion that the fascists are just "exercising free speech" by writing these big checks, folks who have swallowed the two party shell game hook, line, and sinker.

And the hideous ghost of Lee Atwater shook its chains, cackling with glee to behold what it had wrought, and how easily some could be duped, before shuffling back to its circle of Hell.

The current gop is the most corrupt political organization in all the Americans.

None of us are safe until every last right-wing politician is removed from office - elected and appointed - and the right-wing money machine is halted AND the right-wing propaganda machine is held accountable for the vast amount of disinformation they have disseminated since that infamous anti-American Ronald Reagan entered politics in the 60s.

And the GOP complains about Bill Maher. If you ever knew someone who served on a Swift Boat in Vietnam you know this was one of the most vicious smear jobs in American history. I don't think Kerry will ever get over those attacks. Scurrilous and completely un-American. Just another example of right wing hate.

Romney will pay hell for allowing these people into his camp. Like McCain he is clearly willing to sell his soul to get to the Presidency. But McCain would have been attacked relentlessly by the Tea Party had he won and the same thing will happen to Romney. There is the price you will always pay for pretending to be someone you are not.

Just wait until the real campaigning starts and these "non affilliated" PACs can broadcast any vile aspersion that they can puke up. The party is only just beginning. When money becomes "profane speech," the public has a right to challenge it. In fact, it has a overriding obligation to do so. Exercising one's rights does not exempt the person from consequences arising from availing the privilege.

At least 2 ex govs are in jail now and there have been several in the past. They don't get away with stuff and apparenlty don't have anyone payng their way out of trouble. I thought the swift boating was because it was true not because the guy promoting it had money. Makes you wonder now if that was just a witch hunt except the self-proclaimed witches aren't in that party. I could never figure out why republicans complained because Obama got lots of money from voters in small amount mainly and McCain got money from the government to run and that was good. ??? Still can't figure that out. And now it is okay for the rich to buy Newt. Of course we have seen how that went. And Romney. Imagine if they had to get money from the voters. Of course the republicans would be complaining about that being unfair as usual. Has anyone noticed the bad behavior of the republican voters most recently in Missouri. Poor losers or what? And they want to represent our country again. Their behavior has been well very informative. I hope their followers have been watching.

To Valhalla: What incident has 100 witnesses. A little much. Back then I believed what Fox News said. Since then I have been paying attention. Since when does the truth need to financed by the wealthy? Doesn't it express itself and doesn't need promoted by a rich guy? Why is it necessary for the republicans to buy everything and everyone, they don't think they are good enough or smart enough or lucky enough or anything enough that they have to buy everything. When someone has to buy or finance someone perhaps you might want to know why. Shouldn't everyone be divvying up so one person doesn't have to promote and carry the load themselves. Why should one person get more sayso that thousands or millions of others? They shouldn't . Thankfully in America common sense is still prevailing and the rich just redistribute their money which apparently they didn't earn because when you earn it you are more careful with how you spend it.
