WASHINGTON -- Charges against five alleged co-conspirators in the 9/11 attacks were referred to trial by the Pentagon on Wednesday, and the men could face the death penalty.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi are (once again) charged with planning and executing the attacks on Sept 11, 2001, leading to the deaths of 2,976 people.
The convening authority of the Office of Military Commissions referred the case to a capital military commission, so these men are eligible for the death penalty.
The five men have been charged before, but charges were dropped against them in 2009 when President Barack Obama ordered a review of the Military Commissions process, hoping to move the process to a civilian court.
In May 2011, military prosecutors filed charges against all five again. Wednesday's announcement means that the convening authority has agreed they should stand trial.
The next step is for the chief judge of the Military Commissions Trial Judiciary to assign a military judge to the case and for a date to be set for their arraignment. According to the rules, they are supposed to be arraigned within 30 days of being served the charges.
They will be tried at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Oh I disagree... I am sure every single one of them is eager to die "for the cause" and become a martyr. Put them in general population in a maximum security prison for the rest of their lives with no possibility of parole and leave them to rot.
I agree the death penalty will martyr them in the hellholes they come from. Put them in a cell, WELD the door shut, give them food, water, and a new set of clothes once a year. That's all. No "recreatin time", TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, visits, mail, or anything else. Do not allow anyone to speak to them. They should spend the rest of their hateful useless lives in total silence with just the thoughts of the thousands of innocents they slaughtered. And I hope they last for many many years in their isolation that they've earned with their hate and violence.
Lethal injection is too good for these monsters. I think they should be strung up, skinned alive, and burned. And put it on Pay Per View. We could take a big chunk out of the national debt with the proceeds.
Don't convict and end their useless lives humanely.......torture the hell out of them....hey, I know, burn them at the stake slowly! I would be honored to light the first match!
Well, however they are dealt with in NO circumstance do we return the bodies to their families or countries. We should dump each body in a different ocean location around the world then lose any paper or data as to their watery graves.
At least they are back in military court. Obama was so wrong evening thinking about civil court. These are terrorists, not traffic violators! It should not cost the American taxpayers one single penny to defend the likes of these men!
Why has it taken so long to bring the enemy to trial, they shouldn't have taken out years ago. Better they don't even deserve a trial, one behind the ear & a shallow grave will do.

If the FBI can mandate that cell phone manufacturers must create backdoor stealth access for them to tap your phone and turn it into an open transmitter for them to record, why wouldn't the same government be able to require that Boeing make their flight control computers have a backdoor for the FAA and the Pentagon to be able to fly a hijacked plane remotely, taking control of the plane away from the "hijackers"? When is the Trial? or this is just time to cash in on the jailed for 8 years prisoners. Obama promised a fast trial in NY and then backed out. He promised closing of GITMO and backed out.

What do you expect? Bush had 8 years to start 2 wars, tank what was once a booming economy, develop the biggest unemployment rate since the Great Depression, and quadruple the national debt. Obama was trying to fix some of the problems, but Mittens and his GOP 1%ers were determined to stop anything he tried whether it was good for the country or not. They blocked anything that didn't involve enrichment of the weathiest and more personal power for them. This has just been a peek at what is going to happen if Mittens wins the general election. Much lower taxes on the 1%, the continued destruction of the middle class, and more wealth and power being transferred to Wall Street and the big oil and banking companies. The GOP and their masters are only out for themselves and their big money buddies. If Mittens wins, the GOP and wealthiest can sing "Happy days are here again..."
Just give them over to the famililes of those killed in 9/11... Those people on the planes had no chance of survival, they were doomed from take off. Atleast these guys will get a chance again, that is if they make it out alive.

Here is my fantasy of justice. Put them in a plexiglass room with big screen t.v.s from top to bottom all the way around. Show dvd's of the people who's lives were forever changed that day. Weddings, birthdays and just plain life. Give them the strongest dose of LSD they can handle and crank up the volume, thousands of voices at once for about two weeks. Let them come down, strap them in a plane loaded with pigs. Fly over a desert somewhere and have the pilots bale out. Don't forget the live video feed.

I don't think execution is a good idea. They would welcome that. I think solitary confinement for the rest of their lives would be better.

Despite the fact that you are probably right about them considering death penalty martyrdom, we all know it really isn't, the martyrs are the ones they killed on 9/11 (and all other terrorist attacks).
In fact we should give all these extremists and terrorists the "martyrdom" they so wish for, because if we don't kill them then what are we supposed to do? pay to keep them alive and comfortable in prison?

FAT CHANCE !! Its been 11 years since the 9/11 attacks and almost as long since KSM cut off Danial Pearls head and these guys havent even been brought to trial ? Our country's justice system is so broken and inept they will die of old age peacefully in their jail house beds before in sentence ( if they get it- Doubtful ) is ever carried out. Oh and then we wouldnt want to offend the muslims or have Al Quaeda retaliate against us.

I have a deal for the US Government on how to take care of these "Convicted" people. Put them in a building on a bombing range. Them have a scheduled air strike and annihilate the building. 9-11-01 was over 10 years ago. How is it that this is still going on? These people should have received swift justice and it would all be over. Nothing will bring back the dead & the living is demanding justice.
