Bin Laden in hiding: Hatching horrific plots despite crippling attacks on al-Qaida

Holed up in his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan, Osama bin Laden nevertheless hatched a plan to trigger a "crisis" in the U.S. by assassinating President Barack Obama and Gen. David Petraeus. Watch a preview of "Secrets of bin Laden's Lair," airing Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on the Discovery Channel.

Materials found inside Osama bin Laden’s compound last May show that the al-Qaida leader regularly ordered his subordinates to plan new attacks, including assassinations of President Barack Obama and Gen. David Petraeus, despite an increasingly limited cadre of operatives capable of carrying out such attacks.

Like Adolf Hitler at the end of World War II ordering mythical German divisions to attack Russian positions, bin Laden wanted progress reports on how his plans were coming together.  And like Hitler’s generals, al-Qaida’s top commanders believed that their isolated leader didn’t get how bad things were on the ground.

That’s one of the insights U.S. officials gleaned as they went through the terabytes of data quickly scooped up during the raid one year ago on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. In all, Navy Seals recovered five computers, 10 hard drives and more than 100 storage devices -- DVDs, discs and thumb drives --  that included between 10,000 and 15,000 documents and between 15,000 to 25,000 videos, including a large number of duplicate files.

NBC News was granted a rare briefing on the materials by a senior U.S. counter-terrorism official with first-hand knowledge of what was found.  The briefing, which occurred on condition of anonymity, took place in Washington in late April and is reflected in the Discovery Channel documentary “Inside bin Laden’s Lair.” The broadcast, produced by NBC News, airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.

After Osama bin Laden's death, U.S. intelligence agents poured through the trove of documents seized from his compound and discovered that the al-Qaida leader was 'in charge, and just as dangerous as ever.' Watch a preview of "Secrets of bin Laden's Lair," which airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on the Discovery Channel.

Among the highlights of the briefing:

-- The materials did not contain any operational plans, either for future attacks or past attacks, but included “aspirational” plans for attacks that bin Laden wanted to carry out but didn’t have the wherewithal to do.  There was nothing to suggest any planning for attacks beyond those broad plans disclosed in the weeks after the raid:  assassinations of Obama and Petraeus, attacks on tankers and mass transit and bombings planned for anniversaries like the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

-- Bin Laden was more than the titular head of the terrorist group.  Everything “went through him” – including communications from field operatives -- and  he had “a wide range of authority over al-Qaida even at the end,” the official said, declining to provide specifics.  In short, he was “as dangerous individual on May 1st as he had been years before,” because of the intense loyalty he still engendered in the organization and the broader militant Islamist movement.

-- Bin Laden and his No. 2, Ayman al Zawahiri, saw the “Arab Spring” uprisings in the Middle East and north Africa as a “danger” for the future of al-Qaida, representing a “fundamental shift” in the region.  Governments that bin Laden and his followers had given up on overturning were “toppling,” but “the demonstrators were not expressing support for al-Qaida at all, not  using al-Qaida themes, etc.,” the official said. Moreover, by hiding in Pakistan, with limited access to media, bin Laden felt isolated from the movement.

U.S. forces found and killed the al-Qaida leader in the affluent Pakistani town of Abbottabad, where he had been living in a large compound.

-- The Obama administration’s decision to abandon the “messaging” of a Global War on Terrorism and instead pose the struggle as a war on al-Qaida had an effect on the terror group. Al-Qaida’s leaders were able to portray the Global War on Terrorism as a “war against Islam,” the official said.  When it  turned into a war against al-Qaida, “it was harder for their message to get through. … The impression you can get from reading different documents was that it allowed moderate Muslims to say we’re opposed to al Qaida.”

-- There was “nothing in the materials to indicate the Pakistani Government knew of OBL’s location in Abbottabad,” the official said. But  the U.S. does not believe the Pakistani intelligence services has fully shared what they seized from the compound after the SEALs departed with their bags full of materials. “We got some stuff (from the Pakistanis).  Did we get 80 percent of what was there or 40 percent of what was there?” Beyond the raw data, the official said, “It is not our sense that they have shared with us a lot of insights from that.”

-- The official would neither confirm nor deny that the materials recovered at the compound led to the deaths of several top al-Qaida operatives in the weeks and months after the raid. Among those killed in U.S. military operations were bin Laden’s “general manager” or chief of staff, and his “director of external operations,” his chief operative.  “We don’t want to talk about what we learned,” the official said.  However, he did note that after culling the materials for any threat to the homeland, analysts' top priority was “any potential leads to senior al-Qaida” officials, adding, “I think we got more of a sense of their vulnerabilities.”

The official said bin Laden’s desire to attack without resources was particularly frustrating for his aforementioned top aides, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman and Ilyas Kashmiri, both of whom were killed in Predator drone attacks within four months of bin Laden’s death.

“What you get is that bin Laden would come up with an idea but it was a very broad aspirational idea. And then he’d turn it over to somebody and there was always some sort of disconnect," said the official describing what was gleaned from the documents. “There was more (of Attiyah and Kashmiri) trying to explain to Bin Laden how bad it was, that ‘you don’t understand.'"

One such example was bin Laden’s desire to kill Obama. “My recollection was that he said it would be a good thing.” It was up to Attiyah and Kashmiri to plot it out.

“By the end of last year in some of the communications, because they would provide him with a list of the people who had died, there was certainly a sense of loss in terms of the senior leaders that perished, a sense that the mid-level cadre had been decimated,” the official added.

Despite his isolation from the battlefield and the fact that communiques had to reach him by a secret network of trusted couriers, bin Laden continued to hold a key place in the jihad, as more and more al-Qaida “franchises” took hold in places like Iraq, Somalia and Nigeria.  It was often his personal charisma that attracted young men to join the terrorist ranks, the official said, adding that he acted the part.

“He weighed in on a lot of issues. They tended to seek his guidance on a lot of things and clearly would wait until he got back to them,” said the official.

Beyond the specific details in the seized documents, said the official, the U.S. was able to better gauge al-Qaida’s vulnerabilities.

“They worry about how we think about targeting,” the official said, discussing Predator attacks. “… Through the course of all the letters it was clear (what) things … mattered to them.” It allowed U.S. intelligence to “hone our approach … put more resources on this or that,” the official said.

The job of analyzing the wealth of materials seized from bin Laden’s compound was enormous, the official said.

The intelligence community pulled in 200 analysts and 100 linguists to mine the trove as quickly as possible.

Despite the daunting numbers of documents and videos, most had no intelligence value and were set aside in the “triage” of intelligence analysis.  Some were duplicates.  Of the 15,000 to 25,000 videos, for example, not one contained images of possible targets. Not one was an instructional video.  A lot of them, said the official, depicted “life around the compound … chickens and cows, rabbits and dogs,” in effect home videos to alleviate the drudgery of the more than a dozen bin Laden family members who were cooped up in the walled complex.

Most of the documents were likewise of little value, but each had to be catalogued, he said. “A lot of people would give them thumb drives and disks etc. They would send articles and the like. It was something off of Time magazine or something translated, so it wasn’t really an al-Qaida document,” the official said.

Adding to the job of separating the wheat from the chaff was that some of the thumb drives -- al-Qaida’s preferred means of communicating -- held dozens of videos or documents not meant for bin Laden. That did not discourage the analysts, the official said.

“Part of it is this, for analysts and people have been following al-Qaida for years, trying to understand how it works and how it functions etc., … this was great,” he said. “They loved coming in day after day reading, piecing together the data.”

Despite the massive amount of material grabbed by the Navy SEALs in the brief time they had in the compound, the official acknowledged “we didn’t get everything” and that there may have been other “baskets” of data outside the compound.

And the job is not over, he noted.  “

The work is ongoing, going back and looking, because there’s always bits in the document that don’t make sense now that we keep going back looking at as we get new intelligence from other individuals to see if we could put some of this into perspective.”

Now we have The Obama Diaries preceding The Osama Diaries published by Obama coming shortly online. Didn't the editors of The Osama Diaries know that there is real DVDs being smuggled/found by customs in another country with the Al Qaeda ABC travelers' guide X-rated to boot.

It seems like Obama has done everything right in the way he engages the fight against Al Qaeda. It nice to know we have a leader in power whose goal is exactly what he said it would be, FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE WHO ATTACKED US AND GIVE THEM NO SAFE HAVEN REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY ARE.

Well I for one am glad Bin Laden is gone, but believe me, there is plenty more out there that need to be focused on. OUR BORDERS. The Illegal immigrants that are with-in our boundries now. If Obama wants my vote, he needs to do something about these matters I just mention instead of allowing these matters to continue. By doing something, I mean get them out of our country and tighten our security on the borders. 911 was a terrible thing, as long as people are allowed to continue into this country (Illegally), it'll happen again. They don't want to be friends, they hate us, wake up. I don't think ANY illegals should ever be allowed to vote or attend college here. They are illegal, they are sucking up our goverment programs money and guess whose letting them. (Not me) This problem is OUT of hand and our goverment has turned their backs on it. Vote wisely in November.

This isn't a feather in the cap for Obama, nor would it have been for Bush or Eisenhower. The credit of getting OBL goes to those that found him and then took care of him... any president would've OK'd getting him.

What I find to be odd is that most of the material found was supposedly not of worth; this may be true, but I think moreso it's in the military's best interests to not say just how important some is, which is fine by me... we're not supposed to know everything when it comes to military ops and plans as neither is varied enemies or foreign states.

Hello folks, news flash; Osama was seen by a spy drone having lunch with Elvis in a cave west of Kabul. Not just any cave, but the cave where he orchestrated the 9-11 attacks with sophisticated can and string communication technology and a blackboard with chalk. The plans scribbled on the blackboard had details on how to penetrate the most heavily defended air space in the world.

He was also seen with crates of box cutters. There were also sparklers that were used to jump from WTC1 and II to WTC7 which caused the building to free fall at demolition like implosion speed. He also had passports that are able to withstand the high temperatures of a jet fuel explosion.

Don’t worry, we will send Seal Team 7 to get him. They have been trained to locate 6’4” terrorists dragging a dialysis machine around with them.

Well, perhaps any sitting president would have done what President Obama did, BUT they didn't. He did. He was one of the planners, his appointed intelligence heads and his military leaders and our Seals got the job done. The Seals didn't plan this operation, you know. Their superiors did. The Seals did an outstanding, courageous, dangerous job very, very well - acting upon the direct orders of their Commander in Chief, President Obama. There are some foolish folks on these sites who don't seem to understand just how things work re the chain of command.

Hope these same folks don't think that D-Day in WWII was thought up by the wonderful military personnel who stormed the beach. I believe that was President Roosevelt and General Eisenhower and our allies. Think the pilot and crew of the Enola Gay decided themselves to drop "the" bomb on Japan?

So, yes, the Seals did a great job "following" the orders in executing the plan of their superiors, the most superior being President Obama.

So, far right, spin it anyway you can. However, that's the facts, Jack.

I remember the days that the nation was cheering Bush for starting the "war on terror". It made for great campaign slogans and fantastic media sound-bites. He had nearly the full support of Congress, yet he's now remembered by some for it all being a foolish decision.

Let's fast forward to Obamas decision to invade Pakistan in order to get Osama. Is it getting good media attention for his campaign... check! Does it make good sound-bites... check!

Here's the issue. Support him or not, he chose to invade a sovereign country, an allies at that. He embarrassed Pakistan on the world stage for having Osama within their borders. As a direct or indirect consequence to the raid, permission for drone attacks and forces allowed to cross into Pakistan to hunt AL-Qaieda ceased. It sure is playing well for Obama's campaign but I think what was lost in our relationship with Pakistan will have repercussion that will have a far greater negative effect than had Osama been allowed to live.

History will tell if I'm right. But libs, keep up your happy Obama killed Osama happy dance. You might regret it later though... just look what a few short years did to Bush.

Obama campaigned in part on getting out of Afghanistan and Iraq as soon as possible. After being elected, his first significant duty was to attend a security council meeting. In that meeting, the formerly clueless found out what is really going on in the world. Consequently, we did not get out of Afghanistan or Iraq immediately as promised and all of sudden Obama was very interested in getting Bin Laden.

A Bin Laden that had become marginalized in the war on terror and was no longer of any significant threat. It's funny listening to the libs on TV. That practically put it on the level of taking out Hitler.

hs, Obama did not campaign on getting out of Iraq as soon as possible. He ran on getting out of there responsibly. But, by the time he was sworn-in, Bush had signed the SOFA, setting the timetable for withdrawal. Obama did not campaign on getting out of Afghanistan at all. In fact, he campaigned on putting the focus back on Afghanistan, in order to get the people responsible for 9/11, and that is what he did. Obama was always very interested in getting Bin Laden, as demonstrated on the campaign trail that he said, that if there was actionable intelligence that Bin Laden was in Pakistan, that he would send troops in to get him. The wingnuts had a field day with this, saying Obama had said, he would invade Pakistan, an ally. When asked the same question, McCain said he would respect the "sovereignty" of Pakistan.

Funny, that you compare to taking out Bin Laden to taking out Hitler. Because, by the time Hitler offed himself, he was hiding in a sealed bunker in Berlin and had no control either.

yeah, that obama will send in a strike team to murder an unarmed old man in a diaper, then run around telling us what a tuff guy he is.

Obama's biggest problem is that he doesn't know when to be tough and when to be smart....hence the destruction of most of our foreign policy, a failing economy because he wants to be the "Great Giver" to the poor by instigating programs that can never be paid for, and his lack of wherewithal in congress will likely allow military funding to be reduced in a time when more terrorist countries on earth hate us than at any other time in recent history.

I'm also not so sure any President would have ok'ed that raid. I'm pretty sure Bush wouldn't have. The GOP loved having OBL alive because it gave them a bogey man to use during the elections.

Bush let OBL escape at Tora Bora because he didn't want to place troops on the Pakistan side of the pass leaving the back door wide open. So MSNBC has clearly turned in to Obama's public spin machine. Clearly having to replay and replay and spin spin spin events of over a year ago is telling. No new news to report. No affective onshore leadership. And stop whining about the Republicans...he was even more inaffective when he (Obama is a Democrat isn't he) had absolute control of the government...

History will NOT look kindly on this President no matter what emotion you throw at it...ah the good old days when Clinton had a mere sex scandle versus a President who openly misquotes others for his benefit, looks down his nose at his equals in Washington, and uses your tax dollars to promote his campaign at universities...it is truly shameful and history will be the judge.

Romney would have worried to much about how he would have looked if the mission failed

You and your party of @!$%#s seem to forget that you took advantage of Carter's failed mission on Tehran in the 70s and Black Hawk Down in the 90s and also politicized (as you call it) the killing of 3,000 civilians. For nearly a half-century your party has dominated foreign policy, deriding Democrats as weak and ineffectual. And now that a Democrat accomplished what a Republican "war hawk" tried and failed for years, you're just trying to play it down to save your stupid party's ass.

Osama Bin Laden is dead. That is a fact.

However, it is now a year later and we are just beginning to deal with the damage done to international relations after we sent an armed military force into a sovereign nation (Pakistan), violated their air space, killed some of their citizens, and then lied (Sec Clinton) about the great cooperation from the Pakistani leadership that according to Pakistani officials never happened, and if this cooperation did in fact happen, why would our State Department say so publicly and involve the Pakistani leadership in such a matter that would obviously be politically impossible? What possible good could come from such public remarks?

We destabilized the government of a nuclear power in a region of destabilized countries. We sacrificed stealth technology which is currently being analyzed by China. The quick announcement of OBL’s death also cost us a lot of intel that could otherwise have been collected if we had only been able to resist the
urge to announce so early following the mission.

The big questions for historians : Was it worth it? Was the mission fully exploited or did politicians bungle the aftermath of the mission by talking too much too soon? What will be the final cost? Was a Seal Team mission even the correct methodology or would a missile strike have been better? Did our Department of State attempt other means of apprehension, or arrest? Who made the decision that the Pakistani government would not arrest OBL if given clear evidence of his whereabouts? What would the UN discussions have been like if the US Ambassador was put into the position of having to speak about Pakistan’s aiding OBL and not arresting him had this been allowed to happen? What leverage over Pakistan
was lost by invading? What will be the cost of that lost leverage?

The answers to these and other questions are currently unknown, however, this much is known. We will spend billions of dollars we do not have to buy our way back into an ackward relationship with Pakistan. What the long term damage to international law will be is still unclear, but the United States has now set a
precedent that it is OK to send in a military strike team to kill or capture someone in another sovereign country (an act of war in the past) without that other country’s agreeing to do so, if the target is deemed a terrorist. This will have foreign policy and extradition implications for a long time to come. It is very comforting to know that our state department and potus thought about all of this prior to pulling the trigger.

So congratulations Mr. President on the killing of Osama Bin Laden. I assume you will take full
credit and if necessary, full responsibility for eliminating such a twisted individual from the planet.

It could hardly be termed an invasion. To be accurate it was a surgical strike aimed at taking out an enemy. If it embarrassed Pakistan it is only a reflection of their duplicity in allowing OBL safe haven. If they were so clueless that he was there, the Pakistanis SHOULD be embarrassed. They are an ally in name only. Pakistan has it's own agenda.

A surgical strike is not an invasion? Interesting. Reminds me of General Patton in WWII when he called his movements a "reconnaissance in force". Truth is, I really admired Patton. The unfortunate truth is none of us are in charge of how actions will be interpreted. Your "surgical strike" to others is a military force coming in to their country uninvited. This is a dangerous and slippery slope.

NavyVet, yes it falls within the definition of an invasion. Have you never heard of a "home invasion"?

    • To encroach or intrude on; violate:
    • To enter and permeate, especially harmfully.

We were always in a tenuous relationship with Pakistan. In the same vein that I don't think it was necessary to go to war with Iraq, it wasn't absolutely necessary to the mission to kill Osama. There is/was a steep price to pay for going into Pakistan and we haven't seen the full repercussions of that decision. But good for Obama, he made a "brave" decision to violate sovereign soil in the name of campaigning humanity.

Is that sort of like the loss of trillions upon trillions to Iraq with no chance to recoop?

invading other countries with no reason

So, you support McCain's position in the last election that you would not go into Pakistan to get the chief orchestrator of 9/11? But you also supported Bush's pre-emptive strike against a country that did nothing towards the US?

lol, Okay, I'm seeing a huge disconnect here.

Let me tell you something, buddy: Romney nor McCain would've had the stones to do what Obama did, and for that, Obama gets my vote all the damn day long. That bin Laden ass needed to be shot anywhere and anytime. I do not give a flying flip what that backwater country like Pakistan thinks - its left hand never even knows what its right hand is doing - they should be thanking us for getting that terrorist leader out of their country in the most efficient manner possible.

Frankly, I'm not too concerned about Pakistan either. We don't even have to go to war with them, just unleash India on them. Of course, all your Republican buddies might not like that because who are they going to export our jobs to if all of the Indians are busy fighting a war?

The latest strikes have caused more political concern in Pakistan. Before the USA killed Osama, the drone strikes were unpopular but accepted. But the cost of killing Osama, in the way Obama approached it, is immeasurable.

So to answer your question starsailing, "No, I would not have invaded Pakistan with a ground assault to kill Osama". I think the loss of strategic benefits to our troops, lose of intel from Pakistan, the political hit the USA did in the region, including Pakistan and the potential powder keg and backlash from a country that has nukes wouldn't have been worth a marginalized leader like Osama.

It could hardly be termed an invasion. To be accurate it was a surgical strike aimed at taking out an enemy."

And on top of that didn't the Bush Doctrine say the US would do just that?

      Here's part of it

In an address to the nation on the evening of September 11, Bush stated his resolution of the issue by declaring that "we will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them."[27] President Bush made an even more aggressive restatement of this principle in his September 20, 2001 address to a Joint Session of Congress:[28]

We will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

SO it seems to me, that all you Pakistan lovers and Obama haters, that Obama did just what your beloved Bush claimed he, and the USA, would do.

My question to all the hypocrites is were you as concerned about Pakistan when Bush made the Doctrine?

For posters that heap adulation on Obama for having done everything right in the fight against Al Qaeda, I would agree, especially since all he was doing was essentially continuing the policies set forth by his predecessor.

To all the "Blind Faith" leftist:

You leftists hang on obama's words as if they are gospel, that's what he depends on so that he can count on your ignorance....wake up, he lies lie a rug just like any other politician. "HE" said (but it really is only a politically motivated assumption meant for the "Blind Faith") Romney would not have pulled the trigger and Lo and Behold the Blind Faith" leftists take up the chant. Not a one of you KNOW that Romney would not have done the same thing - but obama says it so it is so. You all are so programed on "HIS" word and you are just being duped for his own purpose. What a pity!

The fact that the repubs refuse to give Obama credit for ridding the world of OBL, shows me, beyond anything else, that they will never give this president a bit of credit for any of his accomplishments. Obama could have single handedly taken out the whole compound and the repubs would still be making excuses as to why he shouldn't get credit for the deed. As many have reminded us, Bush was very quick politicize 9/11 and the wars, and to declare "mission accomplished" with much fanfare, when in fact nothing had been accomplished, so don't even try to say that Obama should not be politicizing this. Seal Team 6 would not have gone on this mission without the direct OK from the POTUS. He made the tough decision that could have ended his career if it had gone wrong. The fact that the repubs can't accept this, or any other of his accomplishments just shows how petty and small they are.

Good thing Bush put everything in place so Obama could succeed in killing Bin Laden and take credit for bush directives.

Bush lost most of his ownership for credit when he abandoned the search for Bin Laden. Obama did not just rely on Bush; he had agents in Pakistan to give tips. If McCain had won and killed, you'd be the defenders of the president and we would be the attackers. In your party's mind, that is how it should be; after all, Republicans are "tough on defense." Yet they were so tough during Bush's time that they actually put our defense in danger. So cut the crap and give Obama the credit, you right-wing hypocrite.

Oh don't give me that "Pakistan is our ally" crap. Many of them hate us. I am not against Pakistan, but I'll tell you this; there is a possibility that if we had told the Pakistanis, they might have helped bin Laden or given him a warning, and then the attack would be for nothing. Then you right-wingers would attack Obama for being too trusting. So shut up until you get a better argument. And by the way, those Pakistani citizens are not civilians. They are soldiers in a war, and they were at risk the moment they joined al-Qaeda.

We destabilized the government of a nuclear power in a region of destabilized countries. We sacrificed stealth technology which is currently being analyzed by China. The quick announcement of OBL’s death also cost us a lot of intel that could otherwise have been collected if we had only been able to resist the urge to announce so early following the mission.

The stealth drone that was lost in Iran had significant technology, yes, but the same happened to Eisenhower with the U-2 disaster. The same exact thing happened. And what happened??? Nothing, really. The USSR didn't send reconnaissance fleet over US skies, nor did they attack us. The Chinese may have stealth technology, but they are still decades behind our military capabilities. And there is no proof that Iran has given the drone to the Chinese. China is cutting their oil purchases, and that may antagonize the Iranians. As for the announcement, that is totally false. The American troops were rushed out of there because Pakistanis in the city woke up to gunfire, which could have sent Pakistani troops and/or fighter jets into the area in a matter of minutes. So don't give us the premature announcement crap, because the loss of intelligence was not because of that.

          What i stated ;

However, it is now a year later and we are just beginning to deal with the damage done to international relations after we sent an armed military force into a sovereign nation (Pakistan), violated their air space, killed some of their citizens, and then lied (Sec Clinton) about the great cooperation from the Pakistani leadership that according to Pakistani officials never happened, ...

          All factual

We destabilized the government of a nuclear power in a region of destabilized countries. We sacrificed stealth technology (helicopter technology sir, not a drone) which is currently being analyzed by China. The quick announcement of OBL’s death also cost us a lot of intel that could otherwise have been collected if we had only been able to resist the urge to announce so early following the mission.

          Again all factual.

          What you stated:

Oh don't give me that "Pakistan is our ally" crap. Many of them hate us.

So if some people in a country hate us, then that country can not be an ally in your mind?

And by the way, those Pakistani citizens are not civilians. They are soldiers in a war, and they were at risk the moment they joined al-Qaeda.

Where do you get your information? I was not aware that OBL's wives were soldiers, but I guess you are plugged in at a high source to get such information that none of the rest of us are privileged to have. You are really special aren't you?

The stealth drone that was lost in Iran had significant technology, yes, but the same happened to Eisenhower with the U-2 disaster.

True, but what does this event with a lost drone in Iran have to do with the raid in Pakistan? I guess once again you have information reserved for only special people? The rest of us underlings can't make this connection between these two dissimilar events.

The Chinese may have stealth technology, but they are still decades behind our military capabilities.

Their stealth technology just got a shot in the arm because of what we left behind in Pakistan. My point was, was it worth it? I do not know, but to me, this is a very big and as yet rarely discussed cost of "getting" Osama.

So don't give us the premature announcement crap, because the loss of intelligence was not because of that.

Obviously sir, you have never worked in psy-ops or intelligence. AlQuida is global. Only a few knew he had been compromised when the announcement had been made. It would be a few days or longer before the word would have reached everyone and the ability to monitor that traffic of al quida insiders contacting their peers to get the word out , and spoof OBL in the mean time, would have been of great value. I don't think you know what you are talking about here. Your remarks just comes accross as a strong opinion based on nothing - other than that special info to which only you have access.

Factually - The death of Osama was announced too soon by our president so he could make the announcement during his scheduled speech. Intelligence was never part of this equation on any level. Obama likes to stage events, like the signing of an agreement in the desert on the anniversary of Osama being sent to Hell.

In summary sir, your arguments remind me of swiss cheese.

Oh great and wise Observer of nothing-

The subject matter was about the raid into Pakistan and whether or not that particualr raid will be judged by history to be cost justified. One of the costs incurred in that raid was the loss of control of stealth technology that made our helicopters quiet. The loss occurred when one of the birds in the Pakistan raid to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden went down due to mechanical failure and the subsequent attempt to destroy that downed bird and keep the technology secret failed.

I fail to see how the loss of a drone flying on a totally different mission on a totally different date in a totally different country for totally different reasons that comprised totally different technology (radar signature) had anything to do with the ultimate cost of the Osama raid into Pakistan.

The only scenario that is the same is once again someone is totally unable to discuss and debate facts in an intelligent manner so that someone has to resort to Brown shirt tactic number 2 and resort to name calling.

          Get real yourself.

So John, the fact that Bush captured and extracted the information from the master mind behind the attacks means nothing? And the fact that our soldiers from day one had al'quida on the run into the mountains had no bearing, nor the fact that Bush stoped their ability to transfer funds and seized their funds I quess in your simple mind that had no bearing on his killing either. And I quess with your simple mind...it is ok to kill a known terorist even if it means killing known innocent civilians like children along with the suspect and even if it means not being able to get anymore valuable information. You sir, must be living in a dark hole and ill informed of the ways of war and it is folks like you who most likely voted for this idiot of a Prezy of the united stezy..( as Obama portrayed himself on late night comedy) Oh yea the cool guy who drinks beer, parties our taxes away and cusses up a storm and tells the Russians to wait till Nov then he will have more flexibility, who downgraded our triple A rating and helped raise our unemployment rate to 8.3 and sored our energy cost and GAS PRICES....YEA THAT IDIOT)

Wow if the idiots can believe that changing a name can bring down Bin Laden and that there was no real hard leg work done in the previous years then our county is doomed if these idiots are voting this year...It's not God Bless America...it's God Dam America...as President Obama prayed for 20 years.IN HIS ANTI AMERICAN HATE WHITEY CHURCH!

John I am with you there. Little Bush couldn't have killed him. OBL is a family friend. His family bought some of the businesses that Bush ran into the ground. Everything GWB touched when to Sh t. We had OBL corned when this mess started and we couldn't have killed him then and there. But Bush wouldn't do it. That was never the plan. If we would have killed OBL that fast, Bush wouldn't have had a reason to go into Iraq, witch was the plan from the start.

I find it funny that the Rep's have put there spin on things and made the debt that they ran up with these 2 wars, Presidents debt. Like always the Rep's destroy the economic, start 2 wars and cut tax for the rich and do nothing to pay for the wars they started, and then set there and say Obama's fault for the debt problem.

          RANDY,

If BO has things under control then answer these questions please.

Why is unemployment higher then when Bush was in office after 3.5 years of BO's failed policies?

Why are gas prices the highest they have ever been under 3.5 years of this president failed energy policies?

Why are companies like Sloendra which Obama endorsed and gave Billions of our tax dollars allowed to give a good portion of that money to Obama's campaign before they declared bankruptsy and there is not an out cry of foul play?

Why did our Countrie's credit rating get downgraded, first time ever in history under BO's watch?

Why is there demonstrations in the streets on racial issues similiar to the 60's under BO's watch,,,shouldn't we be past that I mean we have a Whte African in the white house?

Why is the Muslum brotherhood taking over egypt now and they are instilling sharia law on women meaning no education , the wearing of burkas, no driving and the kicker, men can now have sex with their dead wife. Yes no kidding that is Sharia law.Brought to Egypt by the help of Obama!

Why are college students who have graduated moving back in with their parents by the droves and having to take jobs that pay min. wages under this president?

Why under this President are the churches being told what they can and can't do and thus Freedom of Relgion is being trampled on under this President?

Why under this President is Russia being promised something in Nov when "I have more flexibility"...more flexibility with what I want to know. What is this President planning and plotting?

MWhy has this President done more fundraisers then all the President's combined since Nixon?

Why has this President played more golf then all the President's since Nixon combined?

Why has this President downgraded the Presidency by showing up on comedy central?

Why has this President taken more elaborate vacations on our dime then any other President yet Bush was crucified for going to his ranch?

Why is it OK under this President to Kill and vaporize a suspect even an American suspect but it's not ok to capture them and interogate them...isn't murder a worse then capturing and holding?

Ane why on his third day in office did he sign the dath cert of thousands of unborn babies...meaning partial birth abortion ban placed by Bush was lifted...and that's jsut A ok with you liberal to murder innocent babies? What a bunch of Sicko's!

beanne - Please allow me to respond to your comments. I love a good laugh in the morning.

          1. Let's see. When you inherit the debt from two foreign wars, a former president who ignored the domestic economy, and spent a surplus that was given to him by Congress and former president clinton.. It's not wonder we have had higher unemployment.

          2. Funny..... When the Dems were complaining about rising cost of gas, former president bush indicated he could not do anything about it either. However, since Obama is in office, its all his fault isn't it. Obama told Congress to stop a 4 billion dollar tax subsidy for oil corporations already making record profits. The republicans said "no".

          3. Stop with the whole Solyndra BS. Let's see how it really pans out.

          4. So, the 15+ trillion debt that Obama inherited is completely his fault? No other presidents or congressional sessions add up to it? The republicans had nothing to do with it either?Maybe that's why our credit rating went down?

          5. Wow, how many rallies on racial equality have their been in front of the White House. Did you lead these yourself?

          6. You mean Obama himself did this for Egypt? Proof?

          7. See Comment #1

          8. Oh I see.. Churchs are allowed to discriminate in this country, higher lobbyists to influence Congress, but are not required to live under the same secular laws?

          9. No proof, ignored.

          10. LOL. How is Obama downgrading the Office of the President by being on Saturday Night Live. Didn't Sarah Palin also appear their once?

          11. Obama has taken 61 days of vacation in his first term. Former President Bush took 161. Former President Bush also spent 124 MILLION dollars of tax payer money on his vacations. Should we ask for it back? Nice try. www.politicususa.com/gop-owes-taxpayers-124-million-bush-vacation-travel.html

          12. You mean President Obama is doing the same thing that Former President Bush did to protect this nation, but its wrong?? Must be, because it's President Obama right??

          13. The federal government needs to stay out of telling what a woman can or cannot do with their bodies.

beanne - Next time, try to come up with more tangible things vs whining and complaing about President Obama. However, please read the US Consitution and take a basic class in government. my 4th grade nephew knows more than you do.

Bush Jr did not know how to spell Bin Laden and locate Afghanistan in the map.

Only he could open up another battle front in Iraq in 2003 without consolidating in Afghanistan.

Only his administration could have Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as allies on war on terror.

All his operations have ended up as biggest disasters including on economy.

Obama is kind of reminding me of that guy that the show Little Britain: USA made fun of. The 8th man on the moon, James Irwin I think. Who would constantly invite complete strangers over to his house to brag about being the 8th man on the moon. xD

watt75: Says"Itsabouttime....so in other words everything is Bush's fault? Lame at best. Try pulling your head out of the sand. Is this the new America you want?

          I said: My comment 3.12

          4. So, the 15+ trillion debt that Obama inherited is completely his fault? No other presidents or congressional sessions add up to it? The republicans had nothing to do with it either?Maybe that's why our credit rating went down?

Okay I am amused. Where in my comments did I say everything is former President Bush's fault? Apparently, you didn't comprehend my comment. The United States is in the situation based on decades (past presidents and congress) choices. It's obtuse to say its all bushes fault or all obama's fault. If we HAVE to point the finger of blame, let's point it at ourselves. We are the ones who elect our officials right?

You asked me if this is the America I want. I remember an America, were people were given equal rights. When people respected the President of the United States even when they didn't agree with him or his policies. When Americans STOPPED Whining and Complaining all the time and were part of the solution. Greed was not the driving force in our alives. When I bought something and it said "made in America", and much more. America is what we make it, and until we stop blaming each other, it will never be.

          Do_Not_Mess_With_Texas -

You also fail to read with comprehension. I am the one who said "How did the President downgrade the Office by appearing on Saturday Night Live. I am also the one who said Sarah Palin appeared there. This is the United States of America. Just because people like you think it is bad on the Office doesn't mean everyone else does.

However, I do admit. We have a great laugh watching your Governor make a complete idiot of himself on the national stage. Now (as a Texas Transplant) I can only hope that he becomes unemployed as well.

Radical 1 - If a Republican Presidential Nominee appeared on any television show, would that also be considered campaigning. However, I guess that's okay because its not President Obama.

LOL. You Obama whiners and complainers crack me up. Its bad if he does it, but if a Republican does it, it must be okay.

beane, regarding comments in your 1st paragraph of comment 3.1, you're wasting your time explaining to the Obama worshipers that Bush had reduced Bin Laden to virtually nothing. He was no longer of any real significance in the war on terror and intelligence knew it, that's why the hunt for him was dropped and the focus was put on the real players in the war on terror.

Moreover a former ST6 member is quoted as stating

Actually, that would be a former SEAL... not ST6. That person was not involved and has no knowledge about the mission that the rest of us don't have. This renders his opinion as valid as the armchair warriors here on the vine.

hs321- Really? So when Newt Gingrich and Santorum (Republicans who were in Congress during the Clinton administration) both used it as part of their president campaigns, it was a myth? I also think Bush used that as a 'means to give americans back a tax refund during his first years in office.

            :-).

LOL. Bush dropped the war on Osama because he was reduced as a threat? LMAO. You have got to be kidding me. Now that is the funniest thing I have heard all day. So why did former president bush take the credit for it?

So many opinions, so little time. I guess I'll throw mine in as well.

I don't know what happened in those small rooms in D.C. and neither does anyone else except the POTUS and the advisors therein. We have no idea what really went down in that compound except for the SEALS. I do know that Obama claimed full responsibility of the strike not the glorification of it. I listened to his comments. There was no jumping up and down saying "See what I did!" He was solemn and gave accolades to the people who were there. He knew there would be ramifications later down the road because there will always be people who will point fingers and say it didn't happen, or he had no right, or that it was done all wrong. He understood that it would infringe on the fragile relationship already established with Pakistan. A year later, as he knew, the finger pointing and second guessing by some has come. Let the spat begin, but use fair facts to tinge your sway and understand that not all Dems like it and not all Reps abhor it.

Like always the Rep's destroy the economic, start 2 wars and cut tax for the rich and do nothing to pay for the wars they started, and then set there and say Obama's fault for the debt problem.

@ItsAboutTime-3704531 - 13. The federal government needs to stay out of telling what a woman can or cannot do with their bodies.

If that's the case then really the Federal government should stay out of telling me what I can and cannot not do period. Why limit it to woman's bodies. Let's legalize prostitution too. Mostly you just avoided answering beanne's question. Probably because you choose not to think about the horrible act of killing a baby. I find it hard to believe that people can actually be FOR abortion and write it off as "protecting the mother" when abortion does more damage to a woman's body than good. What a terrible World we live in where people's views are so skewed. It's pretty sick eh.

Okay, I lied.. one more post on this topic for today:

I said: 13. The federal government needs to stay out of telling what a woman can or cannot do with their bodies.

First, you raise at least one good point. When does the federal government have the right to intervene in our lives. I can't answer that entirely, but what I can say (especially on abortion), is that the US Supreme Court (Roe Vs Wade) set the law about when a woman can have an abortion. Its a privacy issue and thefore a LEGAL RIGHT for a woman to decide.

What gives you or mr Beanne the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do? Are you the mother of this child? I am pro choice obviously, and I hope that a woman would have the child, but it's not up for me to decide. The decision this woman makes is one that she has to live with for the rest of her life. Additionally, (to counter your argument about 'hurting' the body more), are you doctor? Do you have a medical license or can you clearly communicate the harmful side effects to a woman? Are those different than if a woman's body naturally aborted a fetus? Until you can answer those question, I shall ignore any comments about it 'hurting' the body.

Lastly, I have some personal experience here. My mother was pregnant with my little sister until the 9th month. The child was stillborn. My sister had breast cancer at the age of 37. She was also pregnant. The doctors would not operation on her while she was pregnant. She had to choose to RISK her own life and possibly the child by not doing anything about the cancer, or to save her own life. I don't know about you, but that's a decision SHE should be free to make without someone like you or the federal government telling her the answer.

            Have a great day.

The "campaign" to bolster the "Warrior Commander In Chief" is almost hitting full stride: first Bill Clinton speaks on behalf of Obama in a 40 second sound bite to claim how "tough and alone" it is as CinC; second the Army is releasing "cleared" documents from the OBL files; and third (to be followed by pictures before November elections, probably in October of the sheeted body buried at sea and maybe some bloody headshots from the compound) is the MSNBC Documentary on how OBL lived and plotted CHAOS by hoping to assassinate BHO and CIA Head/ex-AFPAK Chief Petraeus. It gets better all the time; and the obvious is not stated-"Feel my Pain" Bill Clinton has few bona fides to speak on the OBL case as he missed, lost, choked the few opportunities to take the shot-93 Trade Center, 96 Saudi Bombings, 97 Sudan offer to turn over OBL, 98 East African Embassy bombings, 2000 failure to respond to USS Cole attack. The most muscular "success" Clinton had was basketball diplomacy with Madeline Albright dining with the Great Leader in 94 and producing a North Korean nuclear weapon in early 2000s! The Boy Scout Bill to the Community Organizer Barry as Warriors in Chief; got to love it while the media enables the story to continue!!!!

People have to make a serious decision this fall and they deserve to have a complete picture of the choice before them and the quality of the decisions the two candidates are capable of making: Bin Laden at the bottom of the sea, or Seamus strapped to the roof of the station wagon.

Osama bin Laden was the operational leader of the terrorists and was planning more evil and expanding his web. It was even bigger than anyone thought. A great accomplishment that saved American property and lives.

Osama Bin Laden is dead-thank you President Obama.

Yes, it has nothing to do with the anniversary of the death of Bin Laden and everything to do with "bolstering the Warrior Commander in Chief".

You then go into a long diatribe about missed opportunities by Bill Clinton. Of course, you and your ilk, were the same ones screaming "Wag the dog, wag the dog" when Clinton attempted to do anything militarily because it distracted people from the critical issue of the day, which of course, was whether he received oral sex from an intern.

You then conveniently skip over 8 years of Republican bumbling and outright criminal behavior to cast aspersions on the current President. Not once in those 8 years did I hear a single Republican voice raised about politicizing the "war on terrorism" but now that the right has been "out muscled" militarily by the socialist, Muslim, non-American, suddenly it's an issue?

Go back to Fox New's and your Glenn Beck blogs and leave the conversation to the grown-ups.

After accomplishing mission in Iraq, now the same gang is preparing for Iran and Syria actions.

With Iraqi mission accomplishment, oil prices shot up to $145.00. Economies of most of oil importing nations are in a mess.

Saudis and oil companies are screaming that Iran has WMD and Syria is killing 100s innocent civilians including children and women.

Now new screams: arm Syrian rebels (does not matter whether it is arming al-Qaida) and bomb Iran's WMDs.

They forgot about Iraq and Afghanistan and the mess behind. John McCain and gang are back to WMD and human rights business.

To say that Obama is solely responsible for the demise of OBL is to say that President Truman was the president who led us to victory in WWII.

Both President Bush and Obama were the ones who got OBL. And most of the credit should go to those who are in the military who actually investigated, planned, and carried out the attacks. No one party should take all the credit for this achievement.

So the Navy Seals are responsible for killing OBL, not Obama; but they should have captured him alive, Obama's fault.

Let me get this straight. Everything that worked in the mission, Obama wasn't responsible for; yet everything that went wrong, Obama WAS responsible for. Very convenient.

Of course osama could have started running out of there before 9/11 even happened. He also was the one who initially sent our troops out to get osama....wherever osama was at the time. So he maybe did something xD Typical shoot first ask questions later style xDDD

The Bush family is about one thing and one thing only and that is OIL!!! Romney is all about Big Business and his Rich Buddies. Bush would never have really gone after Osama, this man had help from High places to hide in plain site as close to the military as he did. Bush with that Mission Accomplished BS.... and how many years later was the War still going on in Iraq? But that Public Relations move was ok with Repubs.

I know that Bush didn't give a Rats A-s about the American people because of the Mess he created. I find it hard to believe that Americans would even consider going back to that by voting for Romney.

And people on this Blog insult other people because they don't want more of the Bush years. If that's what you want to do than Vote for Romney but don't get mad because others don't agree with you.

Osama is Dead and the Worlds is a better place because of it and that is all that matters! And yes the President deserves some of the credit because if the Mission had been F--Ked Up, you certainly would have put all the BLAME on him.

CLEARLY the zionist machine is ratcheting up the pro obama appeal by using this story again and again closer to the election. They are counting on most idiot americans waking up on queue to hail obama as our saviour from alqaeda.

I don't know about everybody else but I see this as the case so CLEARLY .... this is a non story at all and the fact the these zionist pages allow it to be published when there are MANY more important issues out there SHOULD TELL YOU IM RIGHT.

zioist programming at its best ...

Wait a minute, wasn't it just recently that the right was whining about how Obama wasn't pro-Israel enough and he'd leave them alone in a cruel world if reelected? Now suddenly, the Zionist machine is rallying behind him?

Wow, you on the right pivot so fast it's hard to keep up with you.

Really....You expect me to believe because of a change in the name of the "War on terrorism" to the "war on Al-Quida" that-that is what weakened Bin Laden. How about the FACT that Bin Laden was on the run for 9 years and hidding out of sight...How about the FACT that our soldiers disrupted their training camps and sent the Taliban running...How about the FACT that Bush did the HARD work...the GROWN UP work and captured many Al-quida operatives and managed to get information from their top men with a simple sprinkling of water in the face. How about the FACT that Bush seized their way of making and exchanging money.....and you want us to believe that just because the almighy one came into office and changed the terminology around that he is the sole contributor to getting Osama. Oh man if you can sell that to the American people it's a no wonder we have the worse president on office since Wilson......We don't have a President we have a DICTATOR.

Why oh Why is it OK to Kill with drones, which by the way has killed-vaporized 300 innocent civilians along with killing a suspected terrorist, so why is it ok to murder in that way,but the liberals get their panties in a wad if they are captured and they get a little water in the face? Now, the head of the CIA says, we don't capture anyone anymore and therefore we have not gotten ANY intelligence...NMADA. Is there some reason that BO does not want information to be found? So BO has become the Judge the Jury and the executioner...that folks in another term for DICTATOR!!!!!!!!!

Obama has not thanked Germany (BKi) even once- they are the ones who got the memory chips/digital storage devices in underpantso f Maqsood Lodin- 22 yr old Austrian when he surreptiously came back from Pakistan -Hungary then ovcerland to Berlin,Germany. They painstakingly got the documents from the pornmovie- not Obama that he is portayring now- tell the American people who - could do the math (not US) that revealed the solo courier to OBL- and the real stakes. Thank President Bush for co-operation in cyber intelligence. Thank Germany for once in being on the intellectual forefront.

I continue to pray for the safety of our President, Our Military and Country. Politics aside, The lives of our Potus and military are always at stake by those who have evil intentions for our leaders, people and country. So glad God is answering the prayers.

Very sad that Mr. Obama is fighting hatred from not only our enemies abroad, but right here in America. Some "Christians" refuse to accepts his profession of Christianity, are even praying for his death, will spin everything he does good to be a Republican accomplishment, and everything bad (inherited or not) as solely his responsibility. There is no middle ground, common sense or rationale it seems.

                                God Bless Potus and America.

Beene - If the drone civilian deaths bothered you, why not the bombing of Bagdad? How many covilians died there?

Your argument is simple and one-sided. On one hand you make Obama responsible for everything that is wrong, because he is President, while giving his predisesor credit for everything that is right.

Make up your mind! Oh ya, you already have. You don't like Obama, so you discredit every action he does, noting his successes are not his or mistakes and attempt to mark him and all Democrate as anti-American. From what I can see, people like you hate our present government and want to rewrite the consitution so that 1) Only Republican are true Americans and the rest of us are trators. 2) Big business entitlements take priority above individual entitlements 3) Profit should be made from everything, such as our sick elderly or Social Security.

Regardless of these inhuman idealogies, I still consider you an American and your right to voice your oppinions, because that is what America stand for. On the other hand, if you think painting our President or our Government as Anti-American, I will not stand by idle why you do so. Too many fine men and women gave their lifes for our Nation, for me to allow punks like you to claim it was all in vane. If you have a more qualified President, let him run. If you have a problem with our current policies write your congress man. If you can't open your mouth without bad-mouthing our Nation, then you area worse threat then Al-Quada.

In other words, if you can't respect our government or consitution, by standing behind our elected officials, then your no American; and more likely just another propaganda tool of our enemy.

Because of course, no one should mention OBL on the anniversary of his death. We should just forget it happened because you righties will then scream about how it's an election year stunt.

Fact: For the majority of the Bush presidency, OBL was nowhere to be found.

Fact: Under Republican leadership, the United States invaded a country that had nothing to do with OBL or 9/11.

Fact: On May 2nd, 2011, OBL was killed by Navy Seals.

Fact: President Obama was Commander in Chief and ordered the strike.

                                  Fact: Tomorrow is that anniversary.

I know it's frustrating to you righties that it happened that way but portraying it as an election year stunt in hopes of minimizing it just makes you look silly and childish so stop.

We on the left will take you much more seriously if you don't shout that everything President Obama accomplishes is bad for America and a socialist plot.

What did Obama do other than give the order to kill him? I think this is the crux of the issue. Why does it upset the lefties when the gaps in the big picture are filled in?

you are crazy the first thing he said last year was about the seals. bush stopped looking for OBL and admitted it publicly so he gets no credit. BO campaigned on finding the guy and he did. Why dont you want to give him any credit? why are looking for anyone else to give the credit to? why do you hate the president? its obama supporters who are touting this accomplishment of his. and to the QB thing no they dont but they do get the credit. and if they lose or if this mission would have went badly you wouldnt stop talking about how inept a guy he is. also not everyone would have made the decision to send the team in. romney already had stated in his last campaign he would have sent the drones in. give BO some credit plz.

he reigns, he changed the way we fought the war and used cia to find the guy. then gave the order to go in. he is the president what else was he supposed to do. stop trying to find any way to discredit our president. if bush had got him you righties would have already had a national holiday set for the guy.

Which was already being done!!!!! Quit embellishing on this situation. He just made the decision to kill him. Which is to his credit. These are the facts and you should accept them. There is a big picture and you need to fill it in. Because he gave the order to kill him does give him editorial rights to erase the other facts.

Oh for the love of good cheese... If the order to take out bin Laden had gone haywire and been unsucessful, you guys would be flipping the F out, calling for Obama's head on a platter (more so than y'all already do) because "he made the call!" "It happened on his watch!" You may not like the guy (I'm sure not a fan of everything he's done), but for christ's sake, take your blinders off and give the man some damn credit.

I heard Obama's speech: He DID give the Seals credit. He also mentioned the American people while giving credits. So that's just a lie.

What - I agree. In fact, I never heard Obama once say "I got him" This is just two-faces logic, as a way to twist facts.

FACT: The #1 reason our nation's credit was downgraded as due to the lack of cooperation within Congress. The credit agency specificly stated that although they knew we would eventually do the right thing, they had no idea when. THe rest of the world can plainly see what most Americans see, that due to the political evironment, doing the right thing was against the Republican agenda while a Democrate was in office, because they didn't want anything good to happen while he was in office.

Don't any of you see the conflict of interest when a political party places their needs above the American people's? Personaly, I don't care who is in office as long as they do the right thing; but for some of you what gets done is less imortant than who gets credit, and that is simply childish, irresponsible, and foolish during these tough times.

The reason our credit was downgraded was our lack of desire to reign in spending. You need to read more about it.

                                  From S&P itself;

Since April, S&P has repeatedly warned the U.S. rating was at risk if Washington did not agree to reduce deficit spending by $4 trillion over 10 years. This week's agreement would cut spending by about $900 billion and create a joint congressional committee to find $1.5 trillion more by Thanksgiving.

So congress was warned monthsd before the dealine that spening needed to be cut. They instead fought to do as little as possible against the greater good. One downgrade was not enough. They forced the second one to occur. What great people.

So it was not about the budget debate or compromise but instead the lack of willingness DC showed in slowing spending. The TEA party tried to get actual cuts not merely reductions in spending. They were trying to save the country but alas the old guard in DC wouldn't stand for it from either side. Maybe we cna get rid of 83 more of the old, useless house members in this next election as well as a sizable amount of the old guard in the senate. I dare to dream a real dream of prosperity for the country by not having our future spent into bankruptcy now.

I have never once heard the President take all the Credit for that very Successful Mission, but he would have certainly gotten all the BLAME if it had failed....he was Man enough to take that chance.

And here are a couple of reasons not too. Iran wants a war. North Korea wants a war. Russia and China are backing both countries, obviously prepared for war. But our foreign policy is SO GREAT! Instead of doing something about these problematic countries that could cause American lives, we give them food aid and a few slap on the wrist sanctions. Awesome. That'll show them communists who's boss! That'll stop them from developing nuclear technology! Yep.

Alright people. So the "Let the sleeping dog lie" comment was a little vague and went over some heads. Let me explain. In the context I used it, it means to "leave it alone, give it a rest." What difference does it make what bin Laden was plotting? It isn't likely that he'll have a hand in seeing anything through.

They weren't angry when Bush used the SCOTUS to stop a legal recount of votes and appointed him president, or when Bush illegally invaded a country who posed no threat to us, or that $10 billion in cash just disappeared going to Iraq, or when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million jobs out of the U.S., or when Bush rang up $10 trillion in combined budget and current account deficits, or after seeing the horrible conditions at Walter Reed Veterans Hospital, or when we had the worst 8 years of job creations in decades, or the lack of oversight and deregulations from the Bush Administration that caused Americans to lose $12 trillion in investments, retirement and home values, or that Bush didn't get Osama Bin Laden and that the Bush family and the Bin Laden family had known each other for over 20 years. Just breath, Beanne and HeReigns, I'm sure that lump will go down soon, like 2016 after Obama leaves office.

They could have gotten Bin Laden years ago. The technology exists to the point now that - actually now there is no such thing as a "private" conversation on this planet - anywhere. We are not just talking cellphone conversations. Also thru remote viewing he was able to be located. The "folks in power" prevented this from happening for the longest time.

We know several things for sure.

                                            • The worst attack on US soil happened when George W. Bush was president.
                                            • Osama Bin Laden, the person who orchestrated that attack was NEVER captured or killed while George. W. Bush was president.

Cudos for murdering an unarmed man.

But wait. Wasn't there just a big hubbub over something like that in Florida??

can you truly be stupid enough to draw that comparison in earnest or are you just writing satire? How many thousands of people did Trayvon kill? The level of hate and stupidity of the goosestepping trolls never ceases to amuse and amaze.

Wait... OBL was "unarmed?" Are you joking? You're joking, right? That's one of the silliest arguments I've seen on Newsvine - and that's saying a LOT.

They have been working on locating Osama before Oblunder took office. Any President could have given the order while sitting on their a##. Some of you act like Oblunder was part of all the searching and doing the dirty work. Far from it. Obama a tough guy now? Fricken boney prick, couldn't scare his own shadow.

Manuel - Yes he WAS armed, so stop calling the Seals liers. And two, tossing his body in the sea was NOT a proper burial and actually pissed off more than a few Muslins. And three, Gas was over $4/gallon, highest ever to date, on Jun 2008, but made a nose dive just prior to elections. I guess the GOP figured this would get a Republican in office, and the high prices of today are also an attempt to manipulate voters into putting a Republican back into office, since they are deperate to blame anything of Obama.

Republican 2012 Campain Slogan - Vote Republican or else we'll destroy the nation, like we have been doing since Obama was in office. The pary of "NO" has spoken.

jHARN,you are correct about the GAS prices in 08 ,What the Republicans like to gloss over is the fact the H.O.R. under the Speaker- ship of Ms.Pelosi, brought the C.E.O.'s of the Oil Companies before congressional hearing's under oath.During questioning about the price spikes, some feigned ignorance others admitted market speculation as cause of about 40-50% of the cost.if you remember the cost of gasoline started to fall shortly there after. They started rising again after the GULF Oil disaster and the Tea-Party take over of the Republican House. Why do you think speaker Boehner hasn't ask for similar testimony ,under oath? Is he is afraid of his membership?Maybe,he don't want to piss-off the OIL Companies and lose all the Campaign Dollars. And Manuel is just as CLUELESS as the Speaker of the House ,don't waste time on his LIES !!

Commander in chief is a huge part of the job. That is why Romney left the presidential race in 2008 saying that election was about foreign policy, which was not his strength. That is why McCain got the nomination last time around.

Mitt should should run on his own record that is available, his own statements he has made on about every issue is on record.

Of course he isn't supposed to be shooting rifles at al quada individuals..he's supposed to be setting policy and such..and he's done a great job of that, by focusing on al quada, not being distracted by countries like iraq. You know, more drone attacks in pakistan, increased military use in yemen, more troops to afghanistan...the places where al quada is.

Obama HAS done a good job disrupting al quada..everyone agrees on that..and stupid posts like yours don't distract from that accomplishment. :)

Accomplishment? .....you made spit out my coffee. This is nothing more than look at me politics. Do you really think we are safer since he took office . All he has done is kick the hornets nest. Any type diplomacy that we attained in that part of the world is lost . If anything he exasperated the situation. He has accomplished nothing ......that is why has to inflate his ego with delusions of grandeur. Get a clue Vermontguy

Obama has done a very good job focusing on terrorists like al quada. You need a clue.

The leadership ranks of the main al-Qaeda terrorist network, once expansive enough to supervise the plot for Sept. 11, 2001, have been reduced to just two figures whose demise would mean the group’s defeat, U.S. counterterrorism and intelligence officials said.

“We have rendered the organization that brought us 9/11 operationally ineffective,” a senior U.S. counterterrorism official said. Asked what exists of al-Qaeda’s leadership group beyond the top two positions, the official said: “Not very much. Not any of the world-class terrorists they once had.”

Sorry to let facts intrude on your partisan delusions. :)

Obama may have gotten Osama but he is destroying the rest of the Middle east with his failed policies...just look at Egypt now with the Muslim Brotherhood taking over. Now look at Iran all bolden to get a nuke and wipe Israel off the planet. This President is a joke and the joke is on the Americans who voted for him!

TJefferson ......What brilliant commentary have you enlightened us with this morning ? How about you provide some type of argument instead of just insulting people ? How about you explain why you think beanne is wrong ? Or would that be impossible ?

PValdes: beanne's remarks are so foolish it would take volumes to answer her. For one thing, the Arab Spring was not planned, controlled, or even manipulated by the White House. The American President cannot control the Muslim Brotherhood even though she seems to think he does. If you can get no deeper than such BS, then you deserved to be insulted as well!

I was just a bit curious about the posting just made referring to someone as an "ignorant cracker"

I would submit that the term "ignorant" fits far better to one that doesn't know what the Term "Cracker" referrers to.

Your use or the term lends itself to the non-flattering description of white people, often used as an insult, when it's origins were in fact a noble term for hard working people in a particular region.

Was that how you intended it..........as a flattering remark ?? I know you must have,

That is complete nonsense. Obama is only a loyal supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood but no way controls it.
