Deception at the carnival: Undercover cameras show how games really work
Carnivals are a summer tradition, but are some of those popular games really stacked against you and your kids? NBC's Jeff Rossen went undercover to find out why the games that often look so simple can be so hard to win.
This is nothing new....everyone knows that carnival games are rigged. If they weren't then the carnival wouldn't make any money. This is why I refuse to go to them.
Spend approx $5 to go on a 2-3 minute ride, and $5 more each time I want to play an unwinnable game? Rip-off artists.
A group of us at a carnival took a shot at 3 grand prizes for the ladies for one throw, ball in a basket game, I made the shot but the carnies starting saying it didn't make it, we were like then what is that in basket a cantaloup? 6 vary pissed off Cajuns started to take booth apart. Cops got involved and broke it up, but explained that it wasn't a good idea to cheat Cajuns because 1 they will tell all their friends and family and 2 they come back with said friends and family and finish taking the place apart.
Say it aint so!! Of course they are rigged, how do you think they make the money. These people are not here to provide entertainment, they are here to make money...no different than the banks or any other company that rips you off at every turn
Having been involved in the joints off and on for over 35 years, I can tell you honestly, yes, rigged, except perhaps the games you compete against each other... Basketball hoops, ARCH shots will work but has to drop straight down in, use the granny sytle shooting for this...Read the rules on that game, touchs net or anything other than the hoop, you loose..... Tub games, also called alibi joints, watch the jointy demo the game, have him keep the same balls in basket/tub when you try, record your play on phone, dont hit rim or anything that he can alibi it with, refuse to accept your win, grab cop, go to main boss and show video!! .... dart games are all runup games, you can win, spend about 40 bucks or more for a 4 buck toy animal..... stand the bottle up game, record the jointy demoing the game, go home build the game and practice, go back, record yourself doing it, be sure jointy is watching you! this is the most winnable game on midways and will normally have a one prize per fair notice up..... all pool table games are non winnable... pitching coins is pure luck, same as pitching ping pong balls.... Multi Player games are the safest bet as SOMEONE always wins... POP GUN and cup games, usually one major prize cup is up, if that, and thats usually on opening day when fair inspectors are known to be around..... Now days they claim all folks backgrounds are checked, FALSE! As well drug tests at first of year, which is true in some shows, but even those are cheated, as ride/game owners will have piss in tubes or ballons to pass out before testing...... Want to win at fairs? Stop at dollar store and buy a few animals and claim you won them!
Are you sure you have been a Carny for 35 years? I was only one for 2 years but I saw everything you talked about and stuff you didn't talk about.
I was a Jointy, not a Ride Jock or grab joint worker. I travelled with RCS out of Laveen Az. RCS is a quality show that tests EVERY SINGLE ride jock once a week on the big shows like the L.A. County Fair. Drugs are not tolorated on the RCS lot. Even as a jointy I saw other jointys get 86'd because they tested dirty.
My game was pool tables. You said "all pool table games are non winnable". I would like to share the actual win percentages with you. All the games were the same. Same rules. Just different size prizes for different amounts of money given before the games started. We had a limit sign. How many prizes of what sizes (Small, meduim, large, choice), people could win per day. And we had lots of people who would win the limit every day.
Approximately 30 % of everybody who played my game won. It was only 4 balls plus the cue ball. Make the shots you call. No slop. (A regular game of pool does not allow slop either). Do not miss after the break and do not scratch at any time.
The tables HAD to be as flat and level as I could possibly make it. Because if they were NOT level, all the players would figure this out and win every single time! They had to be as flat and level as I could get them to be as hard as possible to win.
Fairs and Carnivals are entertaining. An interesting diversion. Yes, you will most likely go broke. But it's fun!
I stand corrected then. RCS must be outside the norm.
Yes, off an on for 35 years. I have done so since 14 years old. I have until recently always tried to put in at least 2 months a year as I so enjoy entertaining. I has been years since I have done so full time as I can not stand to be around that particular lifestyle for long.
As well I think it is good to test on big shows, however it should be done even further to include every lot, from church/shopping center to the big ones. Especially ride jocks.
With all the historic and potentially cataclysmic banking fraud revelations happening this is the most timely article you could muster on deception? No wonder the public is so dumbed down. How about an article titled Deception in our Capitalism: How Capitalism in the U.S.A. really works?
This is nothing compared to the legal scam we all banking. Imagine collecting 600k for a 200k house when the government guarantees the loan. Then after ten years of paying just about nothing but interest and insurance the poor taxpayer who backs the loan owns nothing. Or, how would you like to be able to get billions in 0% loans and use that money to manipulate the commodities market and drive up the price of oil and other essentials.
It helps to own the government; Otherwise, how can you get such a deal? The carnival is a joke compared to the real clowns that rape our people and continue to destroy our country. We better act fast to clean up our deadly evil corporate and financial system or we will soon have depression and chaos. Then we want need to bother with rigged carnivals because we won't have a penny to pitch.
I loved carnivals. They came to our small town once every year and I was there each year from age 8 on, first with my older sister, then with my best friend. The thing is: even at such a young age, we KNEW the games were rigged, knew we could never win. We accepted that as a fact of carnival life and just went around listening to the different barkers, rating their talents - which were remarkable - and laughing at their spiels.
Today I just got off the phone with a "direct mortgage lender" who had a spiel to rival that of any Carny. He had a load of BS and he was determined to dump it on me. With all that has happened these past few days, I simply could not believe these lenders were at it again - have never really stopped. They've just come up with new and more creative ways to rig the game. It made me want to cry.
During the bail out of the thieving banks the financial expert on CNN insisted that it was all about student and automobile loans. He is still informing the people. Woe unto these lying enablers that refuse to educate our people about the outrageous usury and con that that is robbing them.
A private banking system controls our money supply and our interest rates. Do these clowns on tv see nothing wrong with this? They are just as low as those they propagandize for.
Why is it that some people must turn every topic into a political discussion? Are they that selfish that they feel every topic was put out here simply for them to use for their own agenda? This is about the carny NOT the banking industry or any other topic ... there are hundreds of appropriate places to post. Take your political crap there ....

Carnies are inbred child molesters and smell bad.

Ladies got their prizes.

Come on... Anyone can see the hoop is oval. I've noticed this since I was 10 years old.

Just my opinion, have a blessed day.

o. alvarez, you are so right on.
