A Bing Maps view of the Harvey Point Defense Testing Facility.
In the best-selling book “No Easy Day,” a retired Navy SEAL who was on the raid that killed Osama bin Laden revealed that training for the assault on the al-Qaida leader’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, took place in North Carolina.
Taking that information, the creators of the whistleblowing site Cryptome.org, apparently scoured satellite imagery of CIA facilities in North Carolina.
After putting in the coordinates in Google Maps for the Harvey Point Defense Testing facility, purportedly a CIA training ground, only a clearing in a field was seen.
On Bing Maps, however, Cryptome spotters, spied what looks like an uncompleted mockup of the bin Laden compound in Abbottabad.

This DigitalGlobe satellie image, taken June 15, 2005 and obtained on May 3, 2011, shows the compound that Osama bin Laden was killed in on Monday in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
PhotoBlog: Pentagon unveils scale model of bin Laden compound
Cryptome published its findings on its website on Tuesday.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has said revelations in the book, written under the pseudonym Mark Owen, could put future operations in jeopardy and suggested that the writer should be punished for writing the best-seller.
Although the Pentagon has said it had dismantled the facility, Cryptome found the imagery on a dated satellite pictures. Satellite imagery is not updated that often, sometimes not for years.
Cryptome is a website that uses publicly available material to reveal what would otherwise be secret.
The site is run by John Young, a New-York based architect and political activist who was spilling confidential information even before WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange released secret government documents, according to a book review and profile of Young published on the website of Forbes magazine.
NBC News senior investigative producer Robert Windrem contributed to this report.
"No Easy Day," written by a former Navy SEAL who helped take down Osama bin Laden, claims the al-Qaida leader did not defend himself during the raid. The book will become available on Sept. 4, earlier than the anticipated Sept. 11 release date. NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reports.

Obama lied, an Ambassador died!
And MSNBC isn't doing one thing to get to the truth.
MSNBC: Proving every day that the term 'journalistic integrity' is an oxymoron.
Kick out Obama in 28 days!
Obama has been a national security nightmare. If you haven't yet seen it, OPSEC released this video:
http://www.opsecteam.org/
He's never authorized any aides to reveal the name of an undercover CIA operative to our enemies, which makes him one better than the previous administration when it comes to OPSEC. Julius & Ethel Rosenberg were executed in 1953 for doing the same thing that Dick Cheney did in 2003. Were you wailing about journalistic integrity back then?
There is a different between consultant and embassy, what we have in Libya is a consultant.
As for who lying more, Political fact which you can google for would tell you that between Obama and Romney, Obama is a more honest person compared to Romney.
Panetta lies and our spies die. This administration really sucks. BHO takes credit for things he has never done, and pansy Panetta screws his folks..
What a great Leader and his crew we have. Damn, damn, damn.
Your a fu----king idiot.....OBAMA 2012! He has done more in his 4 years as Commander in Chief than anyone else. It just hurts you that he got Osama....Im 100% sure that the Ambassador that died never shared your pathetic view points....on November 6th we are going to stick it to you and every other unpatriotic Americans......
Obama: "The buck stops...........with Bush."
Obama: One and DONE!
Keep dreaming...OBAMA 2012 4 more years!
Keep looking thru those Kool-aid glasses Ricardo
Does somebody need a nap-time?
It does rhyme. I guess that I have to give you that.
Oh Barry, clearly you can't differentiate a politician vs a newsman outing someone .
It's amazing how one lie can grow from such a small lie into one of the biggest snowball lies I have ever seen in my life. Looking, and continually trying to look like the truth, this massive lie is just sitting there waiting to be cast away and easily dismissed as a lie, but it continues. It just continues and continues as all efforts to dismiss it have been overcome. It just stays there. It just remains, and is sitting there. Growing into peoples' lives, as they along with it, consider it as part of the truth going throughout the world.
No matter how many people believe in something, it either remains the truth or it remains a lie.
For several days all hands in the administration made up phoney movie excuses - this was a terrorist attack on 9 F'n 11.
It was a stupid lie that only brain-dead morons including many on this site supported.
Worst part is the state dept denied proper security and people did die!
Keep on dreaming Ricardo....
I have been perusing the site that they linked from this article, the source of those photos. Apparently it is one of those sites that posts secret stuff. Great photos of Langley and the Farm. There is more photos of CIA places than most major tourist attractions. Being a spy is about like being an actor, one step away from being in the tabloids. I guess it is not like the cold war when we actually HAD secrets. It seems nothing is secret anymore. I can think of better less public places to do spy things.
Bin Laden keep'n an eye out for ya'...
A consultant? Really?
I think the word you were looking for was consulate...
I think that anyone that publishes OPSEC should be punished to the full extent of the law and then some. This places a lot of people in danger! I spent a career doing the "deed" and the term "loose lips sinks ships" is definitely a true statement.
ricardo...is that ricky ricardo by the way ?
Anyhow.. Obama did not get bin laden. the seals did after 10 years of intense serching I might add. Anyone who beleives bush actuall gave up looking is either brain dead or very nieve.. That statement was meant to have bin Laden relax his security which obviously he did finally. Bush would never let the man responsible for the 9-11 attack on the twin towers go free. To think he would is rediculous. I will only give note that he was gotten while Obama was in office but it was a masive joint undertaking over many years the got him not the current President alone or is administraion. Pull you head out and get some fresh air.
You have to love it when someone attempts to insult someone else by saying, "your" a f***ing idiot", instead of using the proper contraction you're. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine who the real idiot is.
The fact is a lot of people were involved. The first decision to intensify the hunt for Bin Laden and get that hunt funded came from Obama. Then there were all the CIA and other intelligence folks who toiled hard behind enemy lines for MONTHS to track down and gather proof of Bin Laden. Then there was president Obama who had to make a decision amongst all the conflicting views, whether to just bomb the place (Def Sec Robert Gates opinion), or send in the SEALs to verify that Osama is really the one taken out (Sec Clinton's and JCS Mike Mullen's opinion) or wait for more proof of Bin Laden's presence before going in (VP Biden's opinion). Ultimately it came down to Obama to make the decision to send in the SEALs in harms way and take the chances that his presidency would be tainted forever and he won't be elected to a 2nd term if the mission failed. He was ALONE in making the decision and he made a courageous one. All those armchair commentators who say otherwise over here, how many times do you have to make a decision on other peoples lives? Then there were the Navy SEALs who were involved in the eventual hours and courageously executed the mission.
We are lucky to have had Obama for the last 4 years, otherwise we would have been in an economic hole and Bin Laden and many other terrorists who have been taken out by his decisions, would have been out there planning more attacks. Many other previous presidents have done much less and still got re-elected. Obama deserves a 2nd term to clean up the mess created by many previous administrations decisions.
Obama/Biden 2012
Steven B, you're an everyday commenter. Don't derail. Write your own article or seed one rather than derailing discussions.
You're suspended for a week for violating #4 of the Code of Honor.
Ricardo-2751697, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Clearly an OPSEC violation when, if the plan failed and Osama had been spirited away before the nighttime raid, AQ could simply troll satellite images near military bases for a mock-ups of installations they were currently protecting and expect an assault. This is getting out of hand and this administrations OPSEC leaks have been ubiquitous to say the least.
Yep, when do you see MI6 or Mossad or KGB doing stupid stuff like this? Disclosing classified information, leaking names, getting our spy planes intercepted...is anyone in charge of this group of cowboy idiots?
Heya PINyetta.....are you going to "take to court" Mr. Obama and his Bollywood friends for releasing the movie about Osama bin Laden's raid featuring Mr. Obama ? Wait a minute.....classified information was released to Bollywood to make the movie.
The first thing I would do if elected President is to FIRE the SofS, the DOJ, the DHS, the DSHS, the DOE, the Secretary of Treasury, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and then you........Mr. PINyetta.
Talk about firing people for incompetence. Rice, Tenet &Muller should have been shown the door on 9-12-2001. If anyone of these Bushies did their job, we wouldn’t be over there in the first place. Convenient short
term memory.
"CIA's secret bin Laden raid training site revealed"
Leaks?
This is continued, orchestrated brainwashing.
I am getting sick and tired of the media, politicians, and others continously putting the lived of our military and intelligence operatives at risk via leaks such as this. I really wish some of the spec op guys would put a covert team together to beat the living crap out of the big-mouths out there that keep doing this BS starting with the Cryptome.org. I REALLY do! IF this had happened during WW2 people would have been given the death penalty for revealing sensitive information such as this. We now have an administration that is more concerned with photo-ops and PSYOP directed to the American public than it is about people like Docs in Pakistan who put their life on the line to actually help us kill Bin Laden or the future missions that might compromise American lives by their "loose lips". We also have a media mind-set that the news is more important than lives. Well one of these days people on the receiving end may decide that the lives of those that continue this stuff aren't worth getting killed over. If our folks can kill Bin Ladin, just think what they could do to cryptome or wikileaks? This BS is pathetic.
...guess they'll blame resident Obama for this too...
It's hilariously pathetic that you think Cryptome is in cahoots with Obama to leak something.
I am with Chris from Yucaipa
When the article states it was from the book. Had it not been mentioned that the training camp was in S.C. maybe then these images wouldn't have been found. But oh well blame the president for something written by someone else. I'm sorry but the president has the right to say things to us that others do not have the right.
Weapons of mass destruction was a lie but the majority of Bushes supports took that sound bit and ran with it to defend his retarded actions. Oh before you get a hair up your ass to lambast me, I lost a brother in law to that war, can any of my soon to be attackers say the same thing..
Talk about firing people for incompetence. CONGRESS
Congress has an approval rating of 20% and a re election rate of 95%. Surely somebody is going to realize someday, that they cannot be fired.
US Citizens vote like drunken children... except more obediently, and always along Party lines.
And of course Billy Boy never missed his chance right?
OHGuy & Yearning
RE: All of your comments......................Pathetic, Sad, Embarassing, and Oh So True (I could go on and on) :(
Wrong. The president is subject to the same security laws as the rest of the country. The difference is that everybody is too big a pussy to try to prosecute him.
Since you threw down the gauntlet, I'll take the dare. Yours wasn't the only family that lost a loved one in "Bush's retarded actions". What is your feelings about the loved ones lost in "Clingon's retarded actions" in Mogadishu? Is it not reletive because you didn't lose a brother in law or because he was of your favoured political party?
Creepy, feel the same way about aspiring drone pilots flying camera's in peoples back yards. People shouldn't be so nosey and there is way too much space trash floating around our planet.
The President can declassify anything at any time.
The fact is a lot of people were involved. The first decision to intensify the hunt for Bin Laden and get that hunt funded came from Obama. Obama/Biden 2012
Believe it or not, executive privilege does not trump many U.S. laws. Be careful, comments like that show a high level of ignorance about your leader's abilities and authority.
the thinker: Hey now, c'mon, if you don't count Bosnia, Somalia, Kosovo, the USS Cole, WTC 96, the Oklahoma city bombing, blowing up a Chinese embassy, an aspirin factory, and lobing an occasional cruise missile at Iraq, then the Clinton era was pretty "peaceful" :-/
CnR Don't Forget the Assassination attempt (al-Quada took credit) on Clinton when he was in the Philippines. And what was all that about with Sandy Berger?
roc: Sandy Berger is the best friend the Clintons ever had. I don't think we'll ever know what was in those documents he stole.
Will we ever know?
After reading the article, my only response is "so what?"
In other words, I don't see the big "get" in this article. Was anyone surprised when "Mark Owen" said that Seal Team 6 practiced the raid using a mock-up? It would be more astounding to learn they HADN'T practiced the raid. And now we find evidence of the site after it's been demolished. WewHew
It's NBC's way to bring you back to that wonderful day that President Obummer told the world that Bin Laden was dead. Now please vote for him again. Fat chance.
onermailliw-
The fat chance would be for people with common sense to vote for Mitt Witt. He claims to know how to create jobs with his past work history. How???? When all he did was buy a company and liquidate everything for a quick profit. Is that what he calls "creating jobs"? He's two faced, and this 47%er will never vote for that fraud!
Thank goodness you're in the 47% and not me!
Barry - that's because you and others don't have one friggin iota of an understanding as to what stuff like this does to compromise our future ability to repeat high-risk covert missions that took out Bin Laden. John Doe - what the friggin hell does an article about compromising a classified training site have to do with Mitt Romney? People like you would vote for Elmer Fudd if he promised you free sh_t! Common sense??? SOMEONE was behind the door smoking funny weed when it was handed out - and we know who.
The alternative?...well the facts are......Bush quit looking for Bin Laden and Romney wouldn't have started because it cost too much.
Then after President Obama and team America killed Bin Laden...the old flip flopper Mittster said he would have made the samer decision...B as in B..S as in S.
Romney made his decision, he would NOT go after Bin Laden because it cost too much.
ROMNEY LIES ON EVERY COMMENT HE MAKES!
This compromises what? Nothing. If this really was an image of such high value, the NSA wouldn't have allowed it to exist.
It's funny that people think that these leaks compromise anything when, in reality, you would have to lend more faith in the intelligence of the people in these agencies or admit that any operation is already compromised by way of incompetence.
You can't say that. It is too negative to What's His Face and NBCSnooze. Obummer has done nothing of note (on the positive side) other than take out bid laden (that the U.S. trained and equipped against the Russians in Afghanistan).
The obummer supporters forgot that Bush took out Hussein and many of his cronies but that was awful simply because it was "the other party".
This has nothing to do with Obama. you all are idiots. It has to do with a Navy Seal who sold out
It always has something to do with Obummer if it's on NBC News. All Obummer, All the time.Andrea Mitchell would probably break her neck if Obummer made a sudden turn left or right, but more than likely, left.
You haters need to suck it up, Obama got Bin laden , Bush could not do in the 8 years in office . Obama 2012.
Who would have believed that a seal team member would sell out.
and Fox News is all about the 10 Faces of Willard. Ok..so what.
That former Seal is a HERO....another thing you unpatriotic Republicans are just going to have to live with no matter how you try to spin it....he was there...he shot Bin Laden...HERO!!!!!!
onermailliw
yes we know, it's the _igger in the WH that you disdain..
He was a hero until he started divulging secret information, he never submitted the book for editing per his oath, he is now a traitor and should be tried for treason along with those who outed Valerie Plame.
May as well turn this site into a landfill now. Good work "Mark Owen" and cryptome.org who needs enemies with traitors like you.
And I am not republican
Just like Lenin said - communism will not defeat the capitalism. Capitalism will defeat itself by selling itself out for a few dollars. Here is a perfect example.
Anyway - since Obama was in office when Bin Laden was killed - it must be a bad thing. After all - the haters think that everything that Obama has done is bad. Per the republicans - we should all be driving foreign cars and Obama was wrong to save GM. Then when we go to war again - we will be dependent on France and Japan (Chrysler), Saudi Arabia (majority owners of Ford) and China for military vehicles. This is how the republicans defend the USA - by selling us out. Talk about giving up our soverign rights to foreign nations. And the republicans have sworn fealty to someone other than the USA (Grpver Norquest). Isn't that treason?
What are you talking about? How about providing some evidence to back up your tirade.
Fox outed the seal who mis outing everyone and everything else.
Romney hired 17 of 24 of Bush/Cheney regime as his advisers......Bush/Cheney/Rove team outed CIA agent and contacts when her husband reported back as he was supposed to that Bush Cabinet lied about Sadaam looking for nuke material.
Romney hires the outers ....that Bush Sr called TRAITORS.... whoever outed the CIA agent!
Wake up folks. The government and media have been lying to us. Osama Bin Laden has been dead since Dec. 2001. He was on the payroll of the CIA. I here is a copy of the news article.

Report: Bin Laden Already Dead
Wednesday, December 26, 2001
Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, thePakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader.
"The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the source said.
Bin Laden, according to the source, was suffering from a serious lung complication and succumbed to the disease in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief.
About 30 close associates of bin Laden in Al Qaeda, including his most trusted and personal bodyguards, his family members and some "Taliban friends," attended the funeral rites. A volley of bullets was also fired to pay final tribute to the "great leader."
The Taliban source who claims to have seen bin Laden's face before burial said "he looked pale ... but calm, relaxed and confident."
Asked whether bin Laden had any feelings of remorse before death, the source vehemently said "no." Instead, he said, bin Laden was proud that he succeeded in his mission of igniting awareness amongst Muslims about hegemonistic designs and conspiracies of "pagans" against Islam. Bin Laden, he said, held the view that the sacrifice of a few hundred people in Afghanistan was nothing, as those who laid their lives in creating an atmosphere of resistance will be adequately rewarded by Almighty Allah.
When asked where bin Laden was buried, the source said, "I am sure that like other places in Tora Bora, that particular place too must have vanished."
My GAWD I don't believe people don't get this. 1. The media should have never known/admitted there was a mock-up (nor any military member, including a SEAL). 2. Since that got out, we could at least guard the location! Now any terrorist pissant can go on Google Earth and find it by comparison, and from there, study the area, then do research to see who came into/went out of the area (targeting them) and see how we did what we did, learning valuable pre-attack training methods of their own. 3. By showing the mock-up, you reveal lines-of-sight and points-of-entry that can easily be studied by enemies to then predict how future raids would occur. 4. This location and innocent people in-and-around it may become a target JUST because of the symbolism that would be represented with a fresh terrorist attack there (mindset being, "Aha, you trained to kill our hero here? We will bring a price upon this area."). I could go on. As a vet., knowing which media outlets will effing sell dead American bodies to our enemy, which is exactly what they do when they reveal this type of information, is nauseating. So this is it, huh? This is the transparency we want? Get ready for the bill. The waiter is heading to your table now. It's all fine and good til your town gets hit with a dirty bomb because some BS news organization decided to pick up a couple of rating points revealing national secrets. Brilliant. Just brilliant. If we continue this way; if we can't keep news outlets from letting out sensitive information (oh no, cry censorship, quick; should only cost a few hundred of our soldiers, few thousand, tops) then we will be a 3rd world country within the next 100 years. You saw it here first. Have you ever wondered how dumb a whole country could feel? We're going to find out.
Well we all know how dumb you are by your pathetic rant...grow up man...as a matter of fact man up...your crying like a little girl...boo hooo...nothing you say is even remotely true...stop being so damn paranoid!!
And you are a douche, grow up
How about the "national secret" of us drone bombing other countries? You're a damn fool, and I am surprised half of this crap you spewed was in coherent sentences, because none of it makes any damn sense. As a vet who looked for "WMDs" in Iraq, I know better than to believe all the hype about "terrorists" and "terrorist organizations", and I hardly believe the hype surrounding the assassination of OBL. He should have been arrested and brought back to America, not killed and his body dumped at sea so there would be no questions asked. Sure, the media shouldn't have shown the world that there was proof that we knew where OBL was for longer than we claim, because we had enough time and evidence to build a mock-up of his compound for "training purposes". Your xenophobia is showing.
Or this whole article was a thinly veiled attempt by NBC to push Bing....
The SEAL in question is still alive and hasn't been detained, which would suggest that the intelligence community doesn't find this all that much of a big deal. Get over it.
You missed the point. The article was to allow the administration chastise the SEAL member for leaking "classified" info while allowing for itself to do the same. That is akin to a religious affiliation to condemn a particular movie because it disagrees with the message and not expect it to draw increased viewership after its comments. This is an underhanded method of reminding the public that obummer took out bin laden. What was the reason for showing the taped expressions on the faces of the administration head shed if it wasn't for political gain? Previous administrations just made a public statement regarding such actions.
So the pentagon destroyed classified information which means that it is no longer classified. Yet the admin wants to play the "classified" game and not be held accountable.
Osama is not and never was a threat. you were lied to. to start a war we had to blame someone for 911 so osama was the man. I really dont care if you buy it or not. it is your life, and not my problem.
Bush didn't go after bin laden because he was a Saudi. Dont you remember,9/11, all commercial flights were grounded, except the flight that took his rich saudi buddies home. rl19 dream on.
Most of whom had the last name of Laden. Even Daddy Bush was grounded after meeting with Daddy Bin Laden.
agree with you. especially since obl met with cia agents at the american hospital when he was on his death bed when he was the most wanted man in the world, and then he just "got away". funny how he was never even on that wanted list for 911. he had a terminal disease and you don't get dialysis in a cave. how come it is that most people in the know just happen to know obl died shortly after 911 and fbi admitted that they faked his photos since...... didn't most people think it was strange they threw his body in the water?? no doubt they killed someone in that compound---but not obl. it was for obamas reelection
The Obama adminstration has leaked a lot of classified information. The book ( No Easy day) just showed how the current adminstration tried to put their re-election spin on this operation.
were privy to that info , if so you could be charged with divulging classified information and you would loose your TS clearance.
Those Seals should have been paid the bounty to keep there mouths shut if not then the word treason come to mind and carry it out. When in the service i new what not to say and to this day when ask what did you do, i say don't recall.
Jealous much?
Obama is more honest than the idiot in the White House? Someone needs to return to VietNam and spout that crap.
Mikey , What the hell are you talking about?
Bin Laden is a non-issure.. We shouldn't even bring his name up...ever again. Certainly the Liberal news can find something more important to write about. How about the POOR in this country. The number of kids going to bed hungry EVERY night. Nah!! Hell we'd rather ask people to send money to help some poor dog or cat. Where are our heads??
BIN LADEN IS A NONE ISSUE>>>>with Romney saying President Obama is weak on foreign policy?????
DUH....Bush quit looking for Bin Laden and ROMNEY SAID HE WOULDN"T EVEN LOOK FOR BIN LADEN!!! It cost too much. Then the lying coward says he would have made the same decision as Obama....what a liar, he made his decision, he would not go after Bin Laden......
The "Liberal news" as you call it, airs everything you are asking for. You just gravitate to articles like this so you can feign outrage. I learned through the "Liberal news" that 1 in 5 children go to bed hungry. I learned through the "Liberal news" that our homeless numbers are increasing.
Seems if you don't like what is being displayed, you dismiss it to the "Liberal news" pile.
Tell that to those that honor the ones they lost on September 11th. His name will always be brought up. Just like Hitler is. Some names should never be forgotten.
Foreign Policy? How did that deal work with N. Korea? We send them Millions upon Millions in aid and they were to............................? Hmmm Maybe I will go back to that site here on N. Korea with Long Range missiles and see what that deal was?
Obama did not get rid of anyone of those people mentioned. It was the military that Obama hates but will take the credit for their deeds. Obama has no foreign policy except to apologize. He has no juevos!!!
Mikey,
You do know the president is Commander in Chief of ALL of the armed forces. As such he has the final word, GO or NO GO the buck stops there.
Mikey....try the u tube speach President Obama made when he announced Bin Laden was dead....Obama gave all the credit to everyone who had a hand in killing Bin Laden....watch the video...then come back and apologize to everyone for your statement.....
It is pretty simple, that seal took an oath when he entered the military (and leaving the military does not end that oath) he had a security clearence and knew that the operation was classified and revealing any information about the operation is a direct violation of his oath and the UCMJ. he is guilty and should be charged.
John,
Do you get the feeling we are giving a symposium on military etiquet?
I'm not saying it is a good idea, but... why not make this training site into a national monument. People can visit on their vacation, buy Osama bin Laden disguises for Halloween, and get their picture taken putting a cap in the big guy's a$$.
Not high brow or ennobling behavior I know, but I'd go. I might even buy a tee-shirt.
Interesting point is that the other pic was taken in 2005. Thats well before the current president took office, yet he claims all the credit. All what he needed to say was to say, we have killed OBL after due intelligence and not to take credit for himself ecspecially during campaign. that sounds cheap.
Noticed that untoryodi satellite photo of compound already built dated June 15 2005 long before Obama took office CIA working on this mission over 3yrs before he was elected. But isn't it nice of him to take all the credit for it.
I say fire Obama and the rest of his lying liberal friends.
So what we have learned quite by accident is that the CIA in 2005 had located OBL and were planning to do whatever was needed to capture or kill him. Isn’t that the truth of the matter? If so then this fraud in the Oval Office had next to nothing to do with OBL's death. His ‘advisors’ kept him in the dark until the arid was in progress.
Even that Iranian born First President Valerie Jarrett (obviously a moooslum,) and Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama were forced to go along with the raid or else be OUTED as the islamists they are.
Islamists are supposed to lie to the infidels and gain control but not to other islamists.
Barack (aka Soetoro) was tied up in knots when the raid was shown to him. Look at the pics and see his demeanor when he made the announcement. He couldn't eat pork, ride with a dog in a plane, or travel with his wife on a holiday or even watch a fellow mooslum/islamist be killed.
But he was perfectly free to lie about the OBL attack as he is duty bound by the rules of islam to lie to infidels.
But now all of us infidels have heard his lies and see him for what he is’ a pretender, a liar, a socialist and an avowed destroyer of America.
Now he is about to get the ass whipping of his life. His legacy will be that of a tale of lies, indiscretion and traitorous acts. He will be the best example of the worst example ever to infest the Presidency. He will beat the ignoble. slimy, weasel called James Earl Carter the II by yards.
Moochie, as you pack to leave next January please do not steal the linens, the silver or the china.
After all America the Beautiful will still function as a Republic after you and ‘ears' have gone and are rotting in a Federal Prison.
PS: take your sour faced mom with you !
You guys must have strained every muscle in your collective heads to come up with this rubbish.
If you really believe that the U.S. knew of Osama bin Laden's whereabouts in June of 2005, would not the first rational question be, why did it take 6 years to plan and carry out the mission for his capture [or killing]?
Remember, the Apollo project to land a man on the moon, began in 1961, and completed in 1969, which is only eight years. The planning and scheduling of a mission to capture Osama bin Laden should only have been a matter of months, not years.
If this mock-up of Osama bin Laden's compound in Abottabad was already built in June of 2005, then obviously the White House knew of his location at least several months prior to this date.
Are you guys really so consumed with anti-Obama paranoia and/or hatred that you do not wonder why Bush would have known of Osama bin Laden's whereabouts early in his second term, between Jan. and June of 2005 and not made an attempt at capturing him in all of 2005, or 2006, or 2007, or 2008?
If the dating of this photo is creditable, you should be asking why nobody took him out until 2011, and why and how this secret was maintained across the administration of two presidents. IF this story and the dating of the N.C. training ground photo is proven authentic, this was not a trick perpetrated solely by Obama, nor solely by Bush; it was a joint effort, involving two [allegedly] separate administrations, and that is what you should find truly scary.
But all you clowns can see is that Obama is hogging all the credit for Osama bin Laden's killing.
Good thinking. Really impressive. It must be time for you to take a nap now.
BTW: with regard to Obama claiming "all the credit", I recall the current White House stating that Osama bin Laden's capture was partially due to intelligence gathered during the Bush administration.
Ok, let me explain the picture dated 2005. That is a satellite picture of the actual compound...but it wasn't a picture from a spy satellite. Commercial companies can supply pictures of any spot on earth and have been doing so long before 2005. They have those pictures on file and will sell them to anyone with the funds.....now...are we all clear?
Yeah I know...probably not.
dman-353357 Please don't common sense those trolls to death.. LOL, they wont understand a word you typed, they are blinded by teabags. My brothers use to teabag each other when they slept, I still cant figure out why someone would want to be a teabagger.
StackDat- Stack they don't understand common sense, they wont understand those are pictures of the real compound that were taken by a separate company that may have had nothing to do with planning of the mock up compound, but the government could have used old satellite images or old company images of the area.
If I recall Obama did give Bush credit, he never took 100% credit, he gave it to every admin and person involved over time, but how the neo-cons forget that he said that. Trust me Stack and dman what we say will go right over their blind troll asses and they will continue to paste and copy what each other say to make themselves look smarter. I hope newsvine removes their copy and paste abilities so we can watch them struggle to make a coherent non-rhetorical statement.
Ouch! I have to admit that I too missed the clear caption on the 2005 picture, stating that it was of the actual compound, not the CIA mock-up in N.C..
But at least I didn't jump to any inane conclusions, particulary those which would jump over Bush's failure to act, and straight to the assumption that Obama, once again, was putting something over on the America public.
dman, You need to remember that relationship with Pakistan ( Osama's hiding place) was fragile at best. There were many ways Osama could have been "taken Out" Quickest and easiest would have been an Air Strike and level the whole place. But that would have incurred collateral damage and more than likely Pakistan making an international incident out of it. Patience and timing of the military was needed to make sure that Osama was there, (intel. was less then reliable at times) and to create a strike to remove him but incurring the least amount of collateral damage and preventing an international incident. Seal Team did Well!
roc1960 - Once one notices that the 2005 satellite photo was of the actual compound, not a training site, later assembled in N.C., there is nothing needing further explanation. My fading eyesight initially failed to note this detail, which made some of the paranoid speculations of untoryodi and others seem worth addressing.
I have no problem with either the timing or methods used to take out Osama bin Laden, and I agree Seal Team Six performed admirably.
dman, I got my bifocals on. Its come to one must wade through the world politics before they can act. In this Blame Bush arena now days, Bush didn't give up on al-Quada and their operatives including Osama. Many other operatives were "taken out" during Bush admin. Bush was told by intel that Osama was slipping across the boarder to Pakistan and his where abouts could not be confirmed. Send troops into Pakistan? Disastrous to say the least. For this reason and others Bush "dropped Priority" to get Osama and it turned into a sit and wait, cat and mouse game. I'm sure the Bush administration knew of training compound but what could he do if at that time Pakistan was allowing it to exist?
I'm afraid that I may be one of those with whom you have an issue in this regard. While I don't think Bush ever gave up on trying to capture Osama bin Laden, or other Al Qaeda operatives, much of his actions were nonsensical and counter-productive.
His initial invasion of Afghanistan was spot on. But then he turned the nation's attentions and resources towards Iraq, leaving Osama bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the Taliban a chance to recover.
If we had committed even half the military resources used in Iraq, do you really believe that we'd still be fighting the Taliban there today?
I know that many democrats, even those holding radically different opinions today, initially vote for the invasion of Iraq, and yes, they are fools or gutless tools. But they only swallowed the lies emanating from the White House. It was the Bush administration which told these lies.
There lies the difference, and the blame.
Blame Bush? Well, if the shoe fits, wear it.
I will agree with you on the part of did Bush use the resources available as advantageous as he could have in the conquest of Osama? No. Did he ever give up or quit? No. Now Iraq. Set aside the whole WMD question for a moment. Question I like to pose is should we have left Saddam and his regime in Power? Especially with what he was doing to his own people like the Kurds? What he was capable of and what he did in the past? Now the WMD. Is this not now a very similar question and issue we face with Iran right now? Does Iran or did Iraq have the capability of creating WMD? Is not Iran and did Iraq work on achieving such a goal? Could have either Iran or Iraq obtain WMD from another source? If either Iran or Iraq obtain or create WMD would they use it? N. Korea kind of the same thing again? As with Iran, N.Korea and Iraq in the past doesn't our administration and past administration rely on on Intel reports etc.? Are they always the most reliable?
In an ideal world, no. But in terms of the threat posed by him, vs the danger or removing Iran's biggest enemy in region and taking the pressure off of Osama bin Laden, yes, I would have left him there indefinitely.
Looking back in those months preceding operation "Shock and Awe", which pretty much preceded operation "Aw shucks!", it is hard to step away from the conclusion that the Bush administration consciously, and with forethought, manipulated the nation's fear and anger over the 9/11 attacks, redirecting these feelings towards Saddam Hussein with false intelligence assessments and artful public pronouncements.
I recall Dick Cheney speaking of Mohamed Attar [one of the 9/11 hijackers] purportedly meeting with members of the Iraqi intelligence service in Europe a year before the attacks, even while internal CIA assessments indicated that it was virtually impossible for this meeting to have occurred.
I recall Condalisa Rice public assessment of aluminum tubes found in Iraq as probable components of a nuclear weapons program, even while knowledgeable people in this area were of the opinion they were at best suitable for the launching of conventional [and allowed] tactical missiles.
I recall the Bush administration touting reports of Saddam Hussein attempting to buy enriched uranium in Africa, even while our British allies had already dismissed this information as not credible.
The list goes on and on.
As to your questions regarding capabilities and aims of Saddam Hussein, Iran, and North Korea: these are valid concerns. But they are also inescapable in the nuclear age. I would ask, did our intervention in Iraq in any way prevent these nations from pursuing or obtaining nuclear weapons?
Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons ambitions had been derailed a generation before. Hans Blix and the other U.N. weapons inspectors never found any evidence of such a program, and required only more time to make absolutely certain. Bush, "The Decider" decided no.
Iran? This country was in far less fear of either interference by us, or direct threat by their neighbors, after we helpfully removed their biggest enemy. In the years since our 2003 invasion of Iraq, has Iran influence in the region increased or diminished? Have they abandoned their nuclear weapons ambitions?
North Korea already has a small nuclear arsenal, and coincidentally or not, they made this transition during the years Bush had us mired in Iraq.
So no, I would not have move to remove Saddam Hussein, particularly through direct military action. He represented only a very limited danger to our well-being, and as to the welfare of the people of Iraq, you might also ask how about the people of the Sudan, of Rwanda, of North Korea, and any number of other nations beset either by violent internal strife, or ruled by megalomaniacs. We, as a nation, cannot save the world, and generally speaking, we do not try to. It is curious that the one hell-hole we did stick our nose into lies on top of either the second or third largest known oil reserves in the world.
Just another coincidence, I'm sure.
You guys are crazy fools...this guy is a disgrace to the military. What if everyone that serves in the military write a book on their experiences?
I agree Armymik, my son is a Green Beret and this idiot has put him and his team at risk along with others. He needs to be prosecuted.
No Josh....the picture taken in 2005 was from a commercial satellite company...they sell a picture of anywhere on Earth you would like. When it was taken....we didn't know anything about it possibly being a place where OBL might be fapping at.
Uh, have you read the book? It really doesn't reveal ANYTHING! There is a book from last year titled "Seal Target Geronimo" by Chuck Pfarrar(?) that tells the same story. How come no one talked about that book? Both books criticize Osama Bin Laden's... oops, I mean, Obama and Biden's dropping the ball on this when it comes to the use of the intel gathered from the raid. Election year rhetoric to claim some sort of success...
When Obama, told the world SEAL Team-6 had killed, Usama Bin Laden. All all the Actional Intelligence recovered, form ULBs home, was rendered null and void. Obama put the lives of US military personnel in jeopardy. because of a few cheap political points!
Romney Ryan-2012 and beyond!
Ambassador Stevens died! And Obama lied!
I lost all respect for the Navy seals...delta force and Army rangers are the best.
Risk1 what are you talking about it looks like you do not know what you are talking about. What U.S. military
personnel lives was put in jeopardy? You and thinkers like you are the ones puting military personnel lives in
danger.
The media and this ex-Seal are merely opportunists. I hope the military prosecutes this ex Seal. This was
a classified mission and the EX Seal is a bad piece of work. Obama took a huge chance in authorizing this
mission. His political life was at stake and he took the shot, and won. The Seals, except for this idiot , should be praised by a grateful nation. The idiot that wrote this book should go to prison
The president shouldn't take ANY credit? He OK'd the order to follow through. He over rode the generals suggestion of using only 2 helicopters. Good thing too. If Bush hadn't disbanded the unit to hunt down Bin Laden, he could have gotten credit. It was a team effort for sure. During an election? That was way before this election season go underway, unless you think the 2016 election season has already started. Give it up, President Obama is the Commander in Chief who reviewed the intelligence, the suggested plans and the final plan along with his very intelligent tweaking of it. He did not do it on his own. He worked with his teams to get it done.
This Owen guy will soon be in the 1% and become a "job creator", then get a spot on "The Apprentice"
NBC has their head wedged and I'm afraid it's way to late to extract it. This country has gone to the dogs with the current administration in office and the liberal press like "Make News" NBC.
Oh get real and switch off the GOP conman dramamtic overdrive. It's just information not gold coins from Zeus.
The same thing was done in preparation of the raid on North Vietnam's Song Ta Prison of War Camp. "On November 21, 1970, a force of 56 US commandos led by Col. Arthur 'Bull' Simons raided the Son Tay camp to rescue the estimated 70 to 80 prisoners, supported by 29 USAF aircraft and 92 flight crew on the direct raid and a total of 105 aircraft including supporting roles" wikipedia. A book was written within five years of the event, if I remember correctly. The training zone was from Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to Knoxville, Tn. A replica of the camp was built near Anniston, Alabama. The replica was built so it could be dismantled during the hours a Soviet satellite passed overhead. Troops trained under Colonel Bull Simmons in Helicopters and C-130's.
What's the big deal?
Thanks for the info.
Is there anything we don't give out sooner or later? This has everything to do with allies trusting us, and to-be-informers trusting that we don't reveal their identities and put them in danger. Secrets should be kept secrets for national security.
It probably is the OBL "compound" since the secretive and often lying US produced no bodies, no verification, no documents- just Pentagon releases which are unreliable. More American boogeyman mythology until proven by historians.
does this bother anyone else? Read picture cation "This DigitalGlobe satellie image, taken June 15, 2005 and obtained on May 3, 2011, shows the compound that Osama bin Laden was killed in on Monday in Abbottabad, Pakistan"
So they have known where he has been before that photo was taken more than likely
Or OBL and his "threats" are all US- CIA BS which is more likely. People are free to keep believing in UFOs, al-queda, Syrian "rebels", Iraq's WsMD, and Elvis being alive as well.
Even though OBL allegedly only moved there a few years ago?
2005 ?" Really? Does that mean the US knew where the OBL dude was? And that the STORIES put out by the current liars in the Oval Office are false ????
Geez...NO! NO we did not know OBL's whereabout in 2005. That picture is stock footage from a commercial satellite company that took it in 2005 but no knowledge of OBL maybe being there was known at the time....sheesh!
