Broadwell, Kelley both were repeat White House visitors, official says

Jill Kelley and her twin sister have lunched at the White House twice, and they toured the White House days before the scandal broke. Records show Paula Broadwell has also visited the White House, attending meetings on Afghanistan. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Jill Kelley and Paula Broadwell, the two women at the center of the David Petraeus scandal, both visited the White House multiple times during the last four years.

Kelley  has visited three times since September of this year, and Broadwell’s two visits were in 2009 and 2011,  a White House official told NBC News on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Kelley’s trips were set up by a White House staffer she met at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., where she served as an unpaid social coordinator.

The staffer hosted Kelley and her twin sister, Natalie Khawam, for breakfast in the White House cafeteria, known as the mess, on Sept. 28 and again, for lunch, on Oct. 24.

The third visit, on Sunday, Nov. 4, occurred just three days before Gen. Petraeus resigned as CIA director, citing an extramarital affair.  Kelley also took a tour of the White House that day with her husband, Scott, and their three children, as well as Khawam and her child.

Broadwell visited the White House twice -- in June 2009, when she met with a National Security Staff member who handled Afghanistan and Pakistan policy, and in June 2011 when she attended a broad briefing on Afghanistan-Pakistan for approximately 20 guests, according to the White House official.

The women have emerged as key figures in the scandal that cost Petraeus his job.

Numerous government and law enforcement officials have told NBC News that Kelley inadvertently triggered the investigation that revealed Petraeus' extramarital affair with Broadwell, his biographer, by complaining to an FBI agent she knew about a series of harassing emails she had received. Agents investigating the cyber-harassment case first determined that Broadwell was the author of the emails, then found evidence of her affair with Petraeus, the officials said.

Jill Kelley, the Tampa woman at the center of the scandal that brought down David Petraeus, reportedly had connections that went beyond the social and military elite of Tampa. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Sounds like a conspiracy to me, in the White House and a few days later, she "inadvertantly" triggered the investigation? How sad that rich people are tolerated as paying for entertainment. This biatch thought she bought diplomatic status. Wouldn't it be nice if people that can afford it just donated money to the troops instead of doing it for selfish reasons?

American Girl-724855

I read another article that said she did have a "security clearance", which she probably got from Petreaus.

To American Girl,

Get real. Your ignorance is showing. Generals do not, I repeat, do not "give" out security clearances. I know. I had a top secret clearance for many years in the military. One time when my clearance was up for renewal the FBI sent investigators out to talk to my neighbors. It is a highly vetted process.

As for Kelly's claim that the General got her the honorary consulate title, the judge in her sister's custody case stated the sister was a liar. Seems to run in the family. I doubt the General had any idea she was telling people she was representing him.

Some of you people seem to think the internet gives you the right to showcase your total lack of intelligence for all to see. How sad.

Mike In SA:You're an imbecile. Yeah, Jill Kelley is an Obama supporter. That's why Jill Kelley attended the 2012 GOP Convention in Tampa, FL. As far as Paula Broadwell. If she was an Obama supporter, why did Republicans urge her to run for the senate? And as far as Patraeus goes, GOP officials also wanted him to run for president in 2016. And wasn't it House Majority Leader Republican Eric Cantor who knew of the FBI's investigation into the Patraeus/Broadwell affair long before the story ever came ou? And yet, all these Republicans I've mentioned was a grand conspiracy and cover up orchestrated by President Obama. Keep up the witch hunt Mikey!!

John Penn, there may be some truth to that. There are approx 450 staff in the White House Complex (has been for many years), and even the White House cafeteria seems to be open to the public during off hours, and wasn't that exclusive.

But now the million dollar question is, with such mentally off-balanced fame seekers having extremely close proximity to certain four-star generals, how many locked doors opened to them? (the kicker is that Broadwell even held some level of security clearance)

This does keep getting more strange...but did she really visit anyone there or just have breakfast and a tour?

      In other news....

Kelley asked for an $80 million broker 'fee' after General Petraeus apparently arranged for Jill Kelley to be in charge of the free trade agreements with South Korea.

A New York businessman who discussed a multi-billion-dollar Korean business deal with Jill Kelley said the Tampa woman at the center of the Petraeus scandal told him Gen. Petraeus had arranged for her to become an honorary consul for South Korea and promote free trade, and then asked him for $80 million to complete the deal.

"Ms. Kelley made it clear to me that General Petraeus put her in this position, and that's why she was able to have access to such senior levels [of the Korean government]," said Adam Victor, president and CEO of TransGas Development Systems, "that they were essentially doing a favor for General Petraeus, and that she had access solely because of her relationship with General Petraeus."

Victor said he thought it made sense that Petraeus would want to put a trusted aide in charge of promoting free trade. When Kelley named her fee for brokering the deal, however, Victor balked. The coal gasification plants under discussion were worth $4 billion, said Victor -- and Kelley wanted a two percent cut. "That's an $80 million fee," he said. "And I mean that is problematic . . . No broker gets $80 million. I mean that's two whole orders of magnitude higher than what they would get."

Victor said he "terminated the relationship" after Kelley asked for $80 million.

"It became clear that it did not smell right," he said. "Gen. Petraeus should not have put an inexperienced person in charge of the Free Trade Agreement with such an important ally as South Korea."

Retired Army Col. Steve Boylan, a friend and former spokesperson for ex-CIA Director Petraeus, said it was "nonsense" that Petraeus had any part in Kelley's alleged Korean deal.

Just a question...if General Petraeus did not recommend her for honorary consul, how did she get that position and who appointed her that? The problem is that one expects one to deny so the whole story is suspect.

If he did recommend her, from the perspective of an American, why would the Director of the CIA think that putting Jill Kelley in charge of free trade with South Korea is a good idea. His decision was not well thought out at all.

I know he is a General...and I respect his service...but he seems to have made a lot of bad decisions at the end of his career which makes me ask...what was he thinking?

As to Jill Kelley, evidently she did meet with this CEO of TransGas Development Systems so someone had to set up that meeting or recommend her since it was a $4 Billion dollar deal. Who was that?

How did she even think asking $80 million was reasonable? Was she planning to split it with someone or keep it all to herself? Something isn't right...

      @ dmill...

If you took the time to actually read the comment fully, you would realize that I included a reference, as I always do, for the $80 million and never say anything without citing sources.

The $80 million comes from an interview on ABC news found here (and in the same link above): http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/jill-kelley-allegedly-asked-80m-bragged-petraeus-connection/story?id=17732754#.UKccmIewvnh

or the $80 million can be found on CNN here: http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/16/us/petraeus-kelley-contract/index.html

or if you want an NBC affiliate, here: http://www.kcra.com/news/national/Businessman-Kelley-wanted-80M-to-win-deal/-/11797450/17447874/-/13myy7a/-/index.html

Three separate news organizations should tell you that the story is accurate. Where can you cite a news article that states that the $80 million is not true? The fact that you did not take the time to read and understand what you wrote says a lot. If you do not understand something, Google is your friend as it can find sources quickly.

If you paid for your education, I would ask for a refund.

There was only one of the meetings that seemed to have any substance and they were with staffers. It sounds like we have some groupies here. However, I think someone needs to check on their party affiliations and just what they may have been up to. And I heard where Broadwell had tried to get cozy with the previous General and he said no. My niece has met Nancy Pelosi and has been to Washington a few times in support of a congressmen so that doesn't really mean much anyway.

And this means what to the world. I like Mike have gone to the White House several times, in fact I have been there more times then the two put together. Now if the article said they slept in the Lincoln Bedroom together 5 times, then maybe there is a story. You teabaggers have nothing. In 1996, my mother & I were invited to the White House to have "tea" with Hillary Clinton. It was because of my mother's affiliation with the Hillary Clinton Support Network. Hillary was being beaten to the ground by bashers trying to ruin her chances of reforming our healthcare system. She appreciated the support so much that we received the invitation. Not only did we have tea, coffee & some of the best pastries I've ever eaten, we had individual photos taken with Hillary by a professional photographer. (The photos were mailed to us. Mine is framed and hanging on my office wall.) We had full access to the first and lower floors of the White House to wander as we wished and take photos. NO escort and NO Secret Service followed us around. We were not allowed to go upstairs to where the oval office is, however. Wonderful, wonderful trip that I'll never forget. It's one reason why I admire the Clintons so much, and why I volunteered for Hillary's campaign in 2008 (which I plan to do again in 2016). We were NOT big donors, we were not high-ranking, important people by any stretch of the imagination. We're common folk from Iowa. But the Clintons APPRECIATED us and reached out to thank us. Remember, WE, the citizens of the U.S., own the White House. You won't be kept out if you receive clearance from the FBI, as we did.

Yes, but will the ladies get to visit the inside of a federal penitentiary? There are plenty of political figures locked up in a variety of facilities, why not the social section of this recent scandal? What amazes me is the 20-30,000 pages of e-mail, the FBI grabbed. 30,000 pages of blank typing paper is enough weight to give most people a hernia or a bad back.

What a lame useless story ... but oooooh intrigue is just oozing from the title. These two hotties "visited the White House numerous times"....so have a couple of other hundred - maybe thousand or so - people who came to visit a friend and have lunch and take a tour. But oooooooooo there might be something going on....ooooooooooo! Crapola!

You have to be a mental case to use the word "slut". Broadwell had an affair. She was a top flight high school student. West Point star. Army officer with great ratings. Published author. Mother and wife.

She made a horrible mistake. She fell in love with a powerful man. Dumb, dumb, dumb. But a "slut", as in easily available to multiple men for pay...no. That is a terrible thing to say. It is simply not true.

Pay is for prostitutes. Sluts just sleep around. I would label both her and the General as sluts and adulterers. Both have proven to be dumb in their personal relationships, but are probably brilliant on paper. They are both probably hypocritical also and prior to this wouldn't have hesitated thinking less of others which such weaknesses. Cheating occurs from familiarity and weakness. For some reason, men appear to have a higher propensity. Regardless they both showed little honor or integrity in this instance.

Buff, she fell in the arms of a powerful man. I have never hear the word love to date. People sweat between the sheets for a host of reasons and many of them have nothing to do with tender emotions. And, I am sorry to say, but any woman or man who strays from the marital bed is slut ting around. Slut is qualitative to me not quantitative...Like , how can you be a little bit pregnant.

Welcome to the second act of the Scum Administration. Everything associated with Obama turns to S%$*&.

And we have four more years of his crap thanks to the liberal morons, the lazy and the illegal. It is going to be one hellavua ride guaranteed. And in the midst of it all the country is still going down the tubes.

Ofcourse nobody seems to give a dam as long as the hand outs keep on coming. Oh and you might have heard the Union Jerks you know the one's that supported the coalalition of the Anti Christ just helped the unemployment situation by prompting Hostess to shut the doors. That is just great, just great lets put more people out of work because we can't strangle hold another company. Well Hostess Bakers have fun on the streets. Have a twinky on me.

And god love the four star screw balls who can't keep it in their pants. This must be a course they teach at West Point. Infidelty 101. Theses Army 4 stars are either screwing everything that walks or planning which political office they want to run for after they get done screwing around. So we have a moron for commander in chief and the generals acting like a bunch of high school boys who got tired of spanking the monkey so they went for the low bush instead of the high ground. We have a secure country, a great nation , it is just lost somewhere I don't know where.

Enjoy liberals , lazy, illegal, and recently unemployeed I will write from Thailand.

Jill Kelley may be a CIA agent herself. Incidentally, I live in the DC area and there are many people around here with connections to the White House that visit there frequently. It's no big deal, unless your last name is Salahi and you bypass security.

Everyone gets into this administrations White House. What's new?

I remember a thousand years ago when I worked in D.C. and my work hours got me off about 3 hours before the busses started heading out of the city. So, I would wander around to all the different places... I could have been a great tour guide. I had gotten passes to the House and Senate, and sometimes I would sit up there just to keep warm for a while, but you weren't allowed to nap. One day I was walking through the capitol and looking at one of the big murals. A lady walked up next to me and started talking about how she never stopped to notice things every day. Long story short, she turned out to be a really high ranking Senator and she told me to stop by her office to pick up some passes and stuff to different things. One of the passes was a WH guest pass. I went on my day off and got in the long long line. They came down the line to check everyones ID and stuff, and it turned out my pass was for a VIP tour so they ushered me up with all these preppy people in suits and such, I was in my usual jeans and t-shirt. They did a complete quickie investigation of me for the 20 years or so prior before the tour started. It was great, got to see everything. The point is... it was very very hard to get into the WH. These people are getting in for a reason...
