New al-Qaida terror guidebook urges young extremists to think small

Flashpoint Global Partners

The 'Lone Mujahid Pocketbook' urges Muslims in the West to carry out small-scale acts of terrorism.

A new al-Qaida “guidebook” for extremists aims to incite homegrown “lone wolves” into carrying out small-scale terrorist attacks inside the United States and other Western countries, using materials as easily obtainable as motor or cooking oil, sugar and matches to trigger massive traffic accidents, devastating fires and deadly explosions.

Titled the “Lone Mujahid Pocketbook” and published by in the spring edition of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula’s “Inspire” online propaganda magazine, the guidebook uses a breezy style that borrows from social media speak and rap lyrics to encourage Islamic extremists in the West to commit acts of violence.

“R U dreamin’ of wagin’ jihadi attacks against kuffar?” is asks, using a derogatory Arabic term for non-Muslims. “Have u been lookin’ 4 a way to join the mujahideen in frontlines, but you haven’t found any? Well there’s no need to travel abroad, coz the frontline has come to you.”

Among other things, it offers detailed instructions for torching parked cars, causing vehicular accidents by pouring motor oil on highway curves, starting forest fires, “making a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom” and using a pickup truck with blades welded on the front “as a mowing machine, not to mow grass but (to) mow down the enemies of Allah.”

Evan Kohlmann, a senior partner at the threat-assessment firm Flashpoint Global Partners and an NBC News analyst, said he says he sees the recommendation for aspiring terrorists to think small in a positive light.

“Despite crafting elaborate terrorist plots in far-away hideouts, al-Qaida has not been able to execute a major attack inside the U.S. since 9/11,” he said. “Homegrown terrorism costs al-Qaida nothing, and it garners the same amount of public attention as "real" terrorism. It's a no-brainer.”

He also said that the new guidebook shows that AQAP’s efforts to recruit terrorists in the West suffered a serious setback with the death of American al-Qaida recruit Samir Khan in Yemen in a U.S. drone strike in September 2011.

“The quality of these publications from AQAP specifically has taken a significant nosedive since the death of Samir Khan,” Kohlmann said. “Quite a bit of this latest guide seems to have been baldly rehashed from the former work of Khan.  Apparently, it wasn't as easy to replace Khan's creative instincts as AQAP first suggested.”

This new how-to e-book/booklet is being assembled by the same people as Inspire- in English- it is for all Jihadi terrorist wannabes how to make a difference as a single cell. These same people are also behind a new Al Qaeda published Top-11 kill list. Salamn Rushdie is Numero Uno on the list-followed Geert Wilders (Dutch),Terry Jones (US Pastor),Molly Norris,Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Flemming Rose, Morris Swadiq,Lars Villes,Stephane Charbonnie,Carsten tare, Kurt Westergaard. Time to treat Al Qaeda terrorism for what it is. It has not waned, retreated or vanguished as claimed by Hakari Sulu wannabe mixing Star Wars and Star Trek.

So you think publishing a text-based booklet to receivers unknown from afar on how to pour motor oil on a curve is maintaining the power they had on 911 or even 5 years ago? No, it's not. These ideologues have been relegated to the likes of U.S. based right wing militia or the old IRA in Ireland. They're still a real threat but are small in numbers and mind and are almost 100% in hiding. They are very close to just requiring "criminal" treatment and monitoring versus "war".

..."Hakari Sulu"? Asinine statements like that just kill any credibility, if you even care.

There are 3 things that is very hard to get your head around:

1. Islam seriously has something wrong with it - the way people are able to leverage it for violence.

2. Many people from Islamic countries certainly don't like "occupation" and engage in violence that is directed against civilians.

3. The "free world" makes geopolitical and security decisions based on corporate interests.

And we continue to see this fire being fueled from both sides.

The left, right, middle, AND fringe are ALL terrorist organizations that whore out their causes and al Qaeda is clearly no exception to the rule. LMarcT and PJ-1795048, you claim that you want peace but I can see that, as with any other human, that you want violence and there will ALWAYS be a price in either where you snap and go all ape manure on people and/or there will be a point in which you will sell out your idealogues and create violence anyway. I have seen it happen WAY too many times in history to know where things like this are going and they ALWAYS end up this way. However, with that being said, it looks like we need to do three things to deter these terrorist from ever committing acts of terror against people again. The first thing that we need to do is to obviously not only use this manual and similar ones against these terrorist groups but to also improve on them and to do it better on them, too. The second thing that we need to do is to put the blood of pigs and other unclean animals on our weapons so that, even IF they destroy us, they will be defiled and thus their cause of entering into their sick and twisted form of "heaven" will be nullified and thus they will be less likely to try and die for their 72 virgins in that place. the final thing that needs to happen is that we need to eat unclean animals in addition to making our weapons have unclean animals and things over them so as to doubly ensure that the terrorists will be defiled when they try to wage war upon other people. I believe that this is the only way to win the war on terrorism. There is no peace and the terrorists would have waged war on oil anyway, regardless of how much oil that there was in the world. Furthermore, the USA HAS no need to fight for oil as we have more than enough oil reserves in this country, so said argument is invalid and Iran shuttled away the weapons of mass destruction after the globalist elite sent their foot soldiers into this country to carry out a multi-sided, multi-step plan on bamboozle, confuse, and deceive the masses on the left, right, middle, and fringe, which also included the famous arguments of there being or not being weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a dictatorial scumbag that needed to go regardless of the objective of the war, period.

The thing is, there are enough confused teens and young adults who are lost emotionally and mentally who will buy into the crap that this book spews out and carry out some sort of attack.

I cannot see anyone who can imagine a god would want random killings and that that god would reward a person who caused the deaths of innocent people. If there is a god, then that god created everyone on this world, either that or there are a bunch of petty little gods running around claiming it and pitting their followers against the followers of other petty little gods in a sort of chess game for their own amusement.

Allah: "Ha ha ha ha, I offered them 72 virgins to kill themselves off in an attempt to kill off other innocent people. Ha ha ha ha, the fools believe me!"

Satan: "Ha ha ha ha, sounds like something I would do, and the fools call me the Great Satan! I bet you two stars, eight planets and twenty moons that fat smelly fellow with the shaggy beard there will be the next to blow himself up!"

The best thing western nations could do it ignore the pathetic cultists and display to the world a united face against terror. The first order of business would be to make sure our national debt is dealt with and our borders secured. The next order of business is to again become a United States of America not a divided, fight amongst ourselves third world wanna be. To do this only takes a voter revolt to clean out all the current incumbents and restore citizen legislators to the Congress. At that time new legislation on balanced budgets, term limits, legal requirements for Congressmen to be held accountable to all laws, an end to special treatment and the ability to vote their own pay raise and health care, and restoration of Constitutional law would go a long way toward restoring our Republic. Finding a President with a shred of leadership ability would be a step in the right direction as well. Until then the war was lost on 9/11 as we scrambled to make ourselves feel more secure by new agencies, laws and loss of personal freedoms.

this is also nothing new... 1 person of many acting alone is less noticeable that 50 getting together. less to look at as well hear... so where is the news flash? there isnt one... this is just another way for msnbc to help you want the government to intrude on your lives, from TSA, DHS, and so on. next you will have to register to buy a gas tank or chacoal lighter fluid for your grill, and have an open reason for search if you buy more than 1.

msnbc i can also see publishing the sky falling just to incite fear for the libs and to keep everyone wondering about the guy next door, who is just minding his/her own buisness cause the world is full of fruitcakes.

It was a well publicized fact that during the Russian Afgan war the US supplied the Talaban with support to defeat the russians in that conflict. It is widely rumored that that US funded CIA backed Alqeada joined the people of Libia to Defeat Quadaffe. Many other rumors and facts Concerning CIA involvement in many covert operations and secret agenda's causes me to wonder If they are not trying to sow the seeds of discontent here at home to further the NWO prime objective- reduction of world population. Wars and rumors of wars. I guess I've been watching too many conspericy movies. Oddly enough a high percentage of the conspericy theories from the last century have been proven to be conspericy fact. The dork above said something about our young people uniting and fighting against the liberals. Got some news, just because the conservative is the squeaky wheel, it doesn't a.) have the numbers to give it any credibility and 2.) young people seem to be quite liberal in many regards and I think they just want us to eave them alone and die soon. So, you must know of some militant youth movement that will rise and fight the liberals, sounds like terrorism and sure it will be dealt with as such. But if you are older and trying to get young people to be terrorists for the right wing fanatical fringe, you will not lose because you suffer from a delusional disorder and hopefully you won't destroy too many lives of those fringe wacko young people.

I have two thoughts about this: 1) the author is correct that Al Quaida has run out of steam, to be putting out such a desperate bit of recruiting; or 2) this is disinformation designed to distract us, spread out Homeland Security forces looking for kids spilling oil on highways (how many miles of highway do we have?), all the while planning something BIG. I'd rather believe the first one, but I just can't be sure....

Then again, it could just be a hoax.

That's how they started out recruiting and all the "why do they hate us" happy horsesheeeit at the onset helped them then!

Face fact, they hate kuffars/kuffirs/kaffirs/infidels and always have--convert, be willing to be a slave, or die.

Really? Even the US admits that the number is at least 130,000 dead civilians as a result of our unjust invasion. Scientific studies show the number to be far higher.

And while Bush's invasion of Iraq was completely illegitimate, it did drive up Al-Qaeda recruitment and gave people around the world a very good reason to hate the US.

The Iran-Iraq War killed about a million and we WERE NOT involved.

Holy crap are you teabaggers ever uninformed. The US not only supported Iraq in the war but we helped instigate the war. We even sold chemical weapons to Iraq and gave him satellite intel so he'd know where best to gas Iranian troops. That's why the US vetoed the UN's condemnation of Iraq's use of chemical weapons in the 1980s, because we didn't want the UN to know who was really behind it.

Ummmm.......yeah........unrest and sectarian murder which we caused by invading and occupying the country.

The point was that there'd be at least 130,000 more Iraqis alive today if Bush hadn't invaded. Our foolish and pointless invasion, directly and indirectly, caused the deaths of all those people. The technical term is "excess deaths", and at least one statistical survey shows that the real number is far higher, well over 650,000.

We aren't in Pakistan or Egypt or Sudan (where a million have died) and weren't in Indonesia where 100,000 Christians died. How do you explain Pakistan and all the other places "kaffirs" are being slaughtered? MUSLIM DEATH CULT.

rachel-3673200 - Very cute to say "indirectly" meaning by vicious MUSLIM death cult actions.

It's a simple fact that the US invasion killed lots of civilians and caused social turmoil which created sectarian strife and caused foreign jihadists to come to Iraq.

I'm sure there are many Iraqis who would like to return the favor some day.

The way scientists measure it is to compare the pre-conflict mortality rate with the mortality rate in a conflict zone, and they can determine roughly how many are killed due to the conflict. If the US hadn't invaded, most of those people might still be alive.

You are a real Muslim terrorist apologist.

From what I can tell, Bush and American soldiers were the only real terrorists in Iraq. We're the ones who invaded without just cause and knocked their buildings down. We're the ones who chose to violate domestic and international law and torture people.

                Rachel,

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_invasion_of_Iraq#Death_toll

                Death toll
A US Navy (USN) Hospital Corpsman and Iraqi doctor, provide medical aid to an Iraqi civilian, injured during fighting near Umm Qasr, Iraq, in March 2003

Estimates on the number of casualties during the invasion in Iraq vary widely. John Tirman, the Executive Director and a Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Center for International Studies, who has reviewed the various data and methodologies, has estimated "the number of war-related dead to be at least 600,000 and possibly as much as one million".

Estimates on civilian casualties are more variable than those for military personnel. According to Iraq Body Count, a group that relies on press reports, NGO-based reports and official figures to measure civilian casualties, approximately 7,500 civilians were killed during the invasion phase, while more than 60,000 civilians have been killed as of April 2007.

The Lancet Survey estimated 654,965 "excess deaths" to June 2006; and the Opinion Research Business Survey estimated 1,033,000 "deaths as a result of the conflict", to April 2009. John Tirman has praised as "most accurate".

In other words, over double the number of Iraqi civilians were killed in the initial phase of the invasion as were killed in the 9/11 attacks...and Iraq had nothing to do with the those 9/11 deaths in the first place.

It seems they have a "unique" market in mind and I do believe they are trying to incite insurgency among the population of the US and the western democracies. If so, no matter what the rationale, AQ is trying to bolster its legions world-wide with guerrilla-type operations.

Considering how they hate and enslave blacks to this very day it's kind of ironic, don't you think? After all, they enslave the blacks of Sudan (even the Muslims) and kill Somalis trying to cross to sanctuary in Israel* and the Arab word for "black" and the word for "slave" are one and the same.

                *ironic, no?

There is obviously no other answer to this problem than to curtail the freedoms of American citizens even further. We need to create more databases of people who "might" harm others; we need more background checks that cover more information; we need to restrict not only the purchase of firearms but also of anything else that "might" be used to harm others; and we need to lock up anyone who "might" do something wrong based on the amazing mind-reading skills of mental health professionals. As for anyone who is a Muslim or foreigner, we all know what to do with them, do we not?

Ya, I doubt that them showing a page from it is going to make tons of people take to the streets with IED's and cans of motor oil to cause car accidents.

If someone is crazy enough to harm others than they will do it no matter what. The sickness would have been there before they read it.

Does Jackass: The Movie come to mind? It seems those most impressionable by the message, no matter if they are "wannabe terrorists" would think it's a great idea to "try out" the forms of terrorism mentioned - even if it is not terrorism the "wannabes" have on their mind.

I think there will be some takers on these "recruit calls" from AQ - Be it wannabes, 99%-ers or just plain crazies.

Jackass is a horrible example. Doing stupid things for humor with a risk of self harm is not the same as planning attacks on others.

Like I said, if someone already has the mind set to inflict pain on others, than an article on how to create weapons is not going to be the all changing catalyst. Plenty of information is already out there online and in book form.

Fear mongering, it's what our country is good at. :p

Mr. Bryant that comment was totally retarded. I've yet to hear even one person say the mentally ill should have guns. In fact the argument by many is that the mentally ill get guns and cause the majority of the mass killings.

@John Bryant - No, I don't think the mentally ill should own guns, I don't think anyone should own a gun unless they are with the military or law enforcement, and only in the line of duty.

@tigerlover-4113331 - I just think it is really stupid for a major news source to basically promote terrorism by posting stuff like this. Gee, why not post how to make an atomic bomb, or others weapons of mass destruction so that the average person could build one!

lol I work with a population between the ages of 16-24, a lot of them ex gang members from Latin Kings, Bloods, Crips etc. If you were to show them this article they would most likely laugh.

People need to realize that there is a diference between having the know how and actually going forward with something. I know how to make home made 'napalm', explosive devices, black powder, various weapons etc. Will I ever use them on someone? Never.

Do not ever say that you will never use them on people, Chegow. The terrorists will do anything to promote their agenda, so you have to logically be as ready to do anything to stop them from doing their agenda, including using their own tricks, tips, and tactics against the nut jobs. However, with that being said, while it might have been irresponsible for NBC to have posted the page from the manual, without some actual proof that it had existed, then we would not know what to look for if there even WAS a manual that is out there and maybe NBC might be in cahoots with the terrorists while pretending to be for the side of freedom (and this might very well be correct), the point to all of this is moot if al Qaeda actually WANTS to become a bunch of attention whores and have people become inspired by them and/or feel sorry for them and to do these deeds with terrorist manuals that are widely available. You people that are getting on Chegow for telling things as they are, you all need to check yourselves before you wreck yourselves. You will also be equally as influenced to carry out such deeds if nut jobs like this try to mess with this country any more than they already have done in this and other countries. You need to fight them on their level and then you need to exceed that level and to get ready to disrespect their religion of terrorism as General Bernard Montgomery did in World War II when similar mindsets alligned themselves with the Axis Powers. Once these terrorists tangled with him, they learn REALLY quickly not to do so anymore and thus they largely withdrew their support for the Axis Powers.

But mentalities are getting more sicker and brazen these days and so I wouldn't be suprised if it occurs in the near future but not by al-qaida terrorists but rather instead it will be committed by regular american brats just for kicks.

The oil trick will only be popular after we close off that other source... not to be off-subject, but just sayin...

There's going to be a growing market for civilian drones, cameras and other tools for surveilance. Businesses and municipalities will want the toys. All that is neccesary is creating the paranoia. Once our government figures out that part, our politicians will be hocking their Defense Contractor shares for companies producing surveilance equipment. Donald Rumsfeld was the Imam of that school.

Sooner or later, (seems like it will be later) this problem with the Muslim religion is going to have to be settled, one way or the other. They keep moving into different countries from their third world hole, then turn around and demand the same conditions like they were that they left behind.

Sorry camel jockeys, we maybe on our way to a third world status, but we will do it our way, not your drunken Mohammad's way. Instead of just killing the so-called foot soldiers of the camel jockeys, we need to go after the state sponsored people, meaning the House of Saud for one, the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood for another, plus any nation that helps or protects them, like Pakistain, Afgan, Yemen, and turn them all into a nice glass parking lot.

It will need to be done, sooner or later, why not do it sooner and save a lot of lives and money?

These attempts to inspire terrorism are contemptible. However, before you conclude that it's strictly a Muslim thing, remember that there was plenty of terrorism in N. Ireland and that was all Christian.

                                      @SteveR-

And here I was going to try and go the whole day without picking on religious nutcases. Having been to a Catholic Gradeschool where the nuns caused a huge bill from breakage of rulers and map-pointers over our heads and should have been more complete goose-stepping and wearing armbands, like I needed to know that.

Oh yeah let's all be idiots and compare Christians to Muslims.

Have you people lost your minds??? Christian violence cannot even compare to Muslim violence.

yeah when is the last time a "true" Christian cut off the nose and ears of a young girl who did nothing wrong but live in fear and abuse?

You people seriously never cease to amaze me...

true Christians in the past have killed thousands of women and Muslim when they went to Jerusalem...there has never been a religion without wars...they also participated in starving Native Americans, and other crimes...Jesus was not about religion he was about life and love... very few really follow him..

Buddhism is not a religion, Taoism is not a religion...

I'm sure this is little terrorist booklet is fresh of the CIA's printing presses. They concoct more false dangers than al Quaida actually presents.

That instruction page reads amazingly similar to the declassified sabotage manuals the CIA and Army used to distribute in Cuba and South America.

"just saying" gotta be about the dumbest saying in a long time, "just saying"

When things go bang in the night I'll call Mr. 1911. "just saying"

I was "just saying" I'd feel safer around Biden with a shotgun than Cheney with a shotgun, I don't recall Biden shooting a "friend" in the face, with friends like that who needs enemies. "just saying"

When it takes 30 to 60 min for 911, you probably wished you had a shotgun.
